My/her/his/your phone

That moment when Apple indirectly admit that whatever iOS they’re on now is worse than Andorid from 2010. Apparently that’s what they’ve replicated with their latest update. My guess is that they’re going to tout it as some revolutionary new development. :joy:

Actually, things are getting worse and worse lmao. There’re a few of their products which are really cool (Ipad Pro 2018, older MacBooks, 5th gen of Apple TV, the watch stuff) but Iphones? no. Their last good one is 7 if you ask me

Okay, i guess the computer screenshot goes here too… i’m still sitting from win10 as i have been playing New Vegas for a while

Let me reboot back home )

Alright, here we go.

Wasn’t that the one that had the touch IC issues? Or was it the one that folded in half?

You’re mistaking it for 6 plus lol
The best one is still 6s: had that folding thing solved , had a mini jack, a good camera and a fast Touch ID

New desktop wallapaper.

For a moment I’ve thought this is the Witcher 2 Lol

Finally I got a new phone…I was kind of forced into it because my iPhone 7 got so bad at receiving numbers I didn’t bother caring. Well I do now. iPhone 11 and it’s purple. I’m not to kin on the se however I do like the screen. More room but again how it fits in my pocket is nothing like my seven. And the fact phone is heavier. But me likie

Twitch is cool. Still shirt some of you guys would venture over. You literally get to hang out with Mshinoda. And it isn’t the pro…not paying that much for a phone and this one should last me for another two years if Apple doesn’t sabotage it like it does it’s others.

And yeah? I’m good.

Not sure if this belongs in this thread, but I’m posting it here anyway.

I finally gave in and put a skin on my laptop the other week. Except I’m not an idiot to pay DBrand £40 for some stickers, so I just bought a roll of fake carbon fibre sticker from amazon for £8 and did it myself. Obviously not perfect, but it looks ok from a distance I think. Now I’ve got a fake carbon fibre exterior to go with the real carbon fibre interior. I also put some on the bezel to cover the cam and Dell logo. Had some sticker left over so I covered my audio switch and the top of my thunderbolt dock as well.

image

(The sticker on the connector is there to cover the tiny, yet stupidly bright, LEDs that keep me up at night).

(Here you can compare the real carbon fibre on the deck to the fake on the bezel, they’re not too far off from each other).

Wow how clean your desk is - and your laptop looks cool  like a designer piece :tada: cool

still I don’t really get what you concret did, but it was cheaper than normal- great creative flow  could fit in the geek thread too or in the art section! Well done Mr. Terminator @the_termin8r :clap:t2:

I just put a big sticker on my laptop. Stops the aluminium from getting scuffed up and gives it more of a sleeper look. It’s got no identifying logos or stickers (apart from an XPS logo on the bottom).

New personal record. Shows how little I actually use my phone, and why I don’t need a new one. This is all on the max performance mode with screen on max brightness. Never saw the point of buying a powerful device and the deliberately running it as a potato. If I wanted a potato, I’d have bought a potato.

It was actually at about 76.5h when it hit 15%.

PSA: Don’t buy a 2020 iPhone SE.

The short version:
You’re being charged £420 - £570 for a ~5 year old phone. To put that into perspective, you can get an S10 for about £570 from Amazon.

The longer version:

My mum just upgraded from an S3 mini to a 2020 SE, a big jump. Though that’s not saying anything considering how old an S3m is. However, when compared to a real phone from today, the SE stands no chance. Hell, even compared to my smashed up, 4 year old, S7 this thing is still slightly worse.

Compared to my phone, the SE has a much worse screen (2560x1440 on the S7 vs 1334 x 750), the SE has a worse screen than a Galaxy S4 and is only marginally better than a full-size S3. The SE has a much smaller battery (3AH vs ~1.8AH), no jack, no uSD slot, two fewer CPU cores and it’s not as waterproof (obviously it’s more waterproof than my smashed S7 lol).

The only places where it’s better is that it has options for more internal storage (but even then, the S7 beats it in total storage because it has a uSD slot), the fact that it uses NVMe as opposed to UFS 2.0 for internal storage (NVMe in phones gets destroyed by anything after UFS 2.0 as far as I’m aware) and it’s slightly lighter. Other nice things are the haptic centre button (always gets me, feels completely real) and the fact that it has bezels so you can hold it. The button and bezels are nice, but not better than the S7 (this bit is subjective opinion) because it too has bezels and a nice, real, button.

If I had to rank this phone somewhere in terms of the hardware you get, I’d put it somewhere between the S5 and S6…both are phones from 2015.

I did a quick camera comparison as well. I didn’t do anything to change the brightness or other such parameters, just tapped the screen to focus and took the pic.

I initially thought the S7 ate the SE alive, because I was looking at the photos on their respective screens, but they’re actually quite close (you’d think resolution at that screen size won’t make a difference, but it really does). Having looked at them on the same screen (my laptop, just a generic 1080p panel), I can say that the SE takes photos in a much taller aspect ratio and shows more detail in the darker areas. The S7 is more vibrant (in the lighter areas) and sharper. The S7 also appears to have a much deeper focal plane. I suspect if I lowered the brightness on the S7, before taking the pic, I could bring out similar detail in the darker areas.

Pics below for comparison (no idea how badly the forum will compress them). The SE is the first and the S7 is the second.

What is completely and utterly unacceptable for the SE though is the fact that it took me 25 mins,
2 different operating systems, Google and asking my sister (an iphone 5C user of multiple years) to take the above pic and get it off the phone.

I thought Apple would have gotten their shit together since I last had to deal with it (circa. 2010), but no, it’s still the same. I was downstairs so didn’t have my laptop. Decided to use the family laptop (Windows 7) to get the image off the phone. Plugged the phone in, nothing in file explorer. Thought it might be debris in the USB port, blew all 3 ports and the cable, nothing in file explorer. Went to Google it, Google said I can only get to the phone through itunes. Opened itunes on the laptop: Error.

At this point I asked my sister what the problem was, she said it should just appear in file explorer. Borrowed her laptop (Windows 10), plugged the phone in, it asked if I wanted to trust the PC, I said yes (this never happened on the family laptop). Then nothing, unplugged and plugged it back in and it finally showed up in file explorer. Navigated my way to the DCIM folder (the only folder you have access to, unlike Android where it gives you access to almost everything), opened it only to find that there was no JPEG in sight, just some weird video file.

My sister said that by default the phone takes ‘live photos’ (or something like that, can’t remember the term she used) which are essentially GIFs. Who in the actual fuck wants a feature like that and why the hell is it on by default? So I had to unplug the phone, go into the camera menu, change the settings and re-take the photo.

In contrast, with my S7, I took the photo, plugged the phone in, told it to trust the PC, got to the right folder and got my photo. It took me all of 1 minute.
