Geek thread - Discuss IT stuff

There is no God. Lazarus just BSODed me in the middle of making a bootable USB. Worse still is that the very update that killed Carbon Mamba just loaded itself onto Lazarus as well.

I’m going to have my first ever nervous breakdown if this keeps up.

This is easily my most hollow victory. The print screen is from Carbon Mamba, it’s alive again. Now I have to go through and set the whole thing up from scratch. I’m still not happy, not even slightly. I will be when I get back to where I was 2 days ago. This is a minor victory at best.

EDIT:

I have probably spent 16 consecutive hours workng through this shit. It might even be more, because I lost track after the 12h mark.

I’ll deal with the rest of this tomorrow.

On the positive side, this is ideal material for a misery short story

4 hours later.
How is it going?

I only started about 2h ago, I was still in bed when i made the last post. lol

I’m done setting up W10 for the most part. Currently decrypting my other SSD since the OS for some reason thinks it’s been encrypted as an external drive and keeps asking for a password. So I need to decrypt it, and then re-encrypt it. Then I need to start re-installing my software and then I need to re-encrypt my boot drive as well since the OS reinstall wiped the encryption.

In other news, my dock came in today, so I’ll hook it up when I get this sorted and will post about it in my thread.

If not a chronicle then perhaps a massive ranting letter to the company detailing issues, labor, time etc etc(?)

I am still planning on putting together the entire list of issues I’ve had. But my first order of business is to finish this. I should also probably buy another external HDD to backup my boot drive on as well, and a USB stick to have as a dedicated bootable media.

It’s ridiculous all the measures you take to avoid this yet you’ve had the worst experience :grimacing:
Hopefully you’re out of the woods…
Knock on wood :fist:t3::fist:t3::fist:t3:

Yeah, if I hadn’t split everything over 2 drives, I would have killed myself, because I had to purge the entire boot drive to get to where I am now. I have an external backup of my files, but still. What if I hadn’t thought to back them up a week ago?

Aye makes me realize I don’t back my stuff up nearly often enough lol
Honestly I’d be a sitting duck, all I back up are my files
Admittedly I don’t think I have as many programs in as you so it’d be less of a hassle since it’s all from the main sites but mehhh would take ages all the same

Yeah, pretty much all of my software is free, but just having to re-install all of it is a faff.

yo
hypothetical
moving a program from ssd to hdd-
do you erase the program, redownload it into the other drive? use a 3rd program to move it? or just move the file and delete it from the sdd? lol

I think it depends on the program and whether it has been split into multiple folders for some reason. But if you find the folder, right click, properties, location and then move. It might work.

Though a clean reinstall is best, provided it won’t wipe any data you need.

aye, theres some programs for which you cant change the location itself for some reason like if it auto-locked on install
its what im used to, changing it from within properties but oh well
the apple files were huge on my ssd, 100gigs
i just wiped everything out and am reinstalling but wondered if you did it differently

ps wtf you doing up?! didnt imagine you replying til a few hours from now lol figured you crashed after that marathon fixing yours :grimacing:

side note-this effer is giving me the notifs on a windows update :joy: im panicked tryna not let it go :joy: soon as i saw it i wanted to run to get my external drive to back up

Oh, yeah!
Lecture him, Papa Smurf

Walk away. I tried moving Apple files once, it corrupted all of them.

That’s pretty much your only option. Though for files I just do a direct copy and paste. I only use move for software.

Finishing off a reinstall that took way longer than I thought it would.

I’m still going. Spotify is also conspiring against me, so I’ll have to re-download all my music from there as well.

That update got onto Lazarus while I was making the bootable USB, I’ve had 2 BSODs since. It never had them before.

I hope you see the irony here. :joy:

Anyway, I’m off now. :vulcan_salute:

lol yup
it partitions into other files like “ipod” and a couple other ones i had to look up so i could delete them, its like 6 different files i had to get rid of while deleting it
i was having trouble since the other day when i tried backing up phone anyway so figure its two birds with one stone

yeah, i meant the program files, had to chase those down and delete after i deleted it

always does

:rofl::sweat_smile: duuuuude… wrong field :sweat_smile:

thats what ive luckily been saying
ill lose it long before you if it happens to me lol

that papa smurf thing is actually what offends and worries me :face_with_raised_eyebrow::joy:

ps theres a difference between asking for an opinion and getting lectured

I already had some hours sleep.
Good nights rest to you!

Rob didn’t ask for your opinion on his sleeping pattern

So

The more I think about it, it is fitting

:joy:

someone else is sassy too :unamused:
perhaps he meant it was ironic you telling me to lecture him when he was giving me info on my question

how so?

edit: i agree-you started it :joy:

look:
ot: finally got the files sorted out, still cant believe I already used up half the ssd space  might have to look into upgrading it to something bigger if the 256 wont cut it… though i have most the software i need installed now…
