You don’t need a gaming laptop.
NO ONE needs a gaming laptop
Well… alright, retards do
Assholes
In my defense, I got mine for cheaper than a decent non gaming
$1100 for it wasn’t all that bad considering the decent plain ones were 1K and above
The decent Xps was 1500
LOL
so what are the specs?
Ah crap
Alienware 17 R15
8gen i7
16gig ram
1070 graphics card
1tb+256 ssd
Dude , don’t wanna be offensive but you could’ve built your own PC with much better configs for such a price
ayeeeee, perhaps
I wanted the laptop though
I’m in camp laptop as well. A good high end laptop will cost you about the same as a custom built desktop of the same spec (or marginally better) over here. Besides, it’s ultra satisfying when somebody is bragging about their killer desktop, and then you rock up with your laptop that’s about the same size and weight as a chopping board and humiliate them.
That’s why I love the XPS so much, it’s something of a sleeper. It looks totally unassuming and the form factor would lead you to believe that it’s just a regular laptop, but no. They pack unlocked i9s, unlocked (as far as I know) 1650s, 64GB RAM, NVMe, the possibility of a SATA RAID (with a cheap adapter), WiFi 6, 4K OLEDs, the lot…and they only weigh about 2kg. I’m willing to pay a slight permium to have a desktop that I can carry around with one hand all day long.
Obviously you can spec up a desktop to way higher, but the costs get idiotic even there. That’s where you start to enter the true ‘pro’ sector where actual engineers, photographers, movie sudios and the likes roll with their rigs. People who actually use them for the machines they are and not for bragging rights.
After all, I’m just a fan of bigger screens… so a decent laptop with a projector is fine too lmao
You could always go for a fairly inexpensive multi-screen steup. Get some semi-decent 1080p screens maybe 21-24" big and you’re good to go.
@NickGr, this is what I was talking about before. The below setup is as close as I could get to @framos1792’s 17R5 (with the info I had) but for a desktop. It’s £1857 which is ~$2320. I’ve based the component selection based on reasonable assumptions, benchmark figures, and the laptop spec (like for the display).
That seems hella high
It is, PC parts are expensive over here. If you really want to, you can scour all kinds of sites, mix and match, maybe a couple of dodgy purchases and you could maybe shave off ~£300, but it’s not worth the risk or faff.
EDIT: The screen is expensive, because it’s massive, but it was the closest to the Alienware one, it’s QHD (1440p), 120Hz, IPS. Obviously, there’s cheaper stuff, but the spec is worse.
WTF, forums and some stuff like side menu on the LPU website just wont work under Safari on this one (older computer, around 10 yers old or so, running OS X El Capitan though. Strange, forums used to work…) Maybe scripts… or cookies or smth like that
I also got Chrome but it works a little bit too slow and doesnt support the cloud password share ( i’m using Safari on mobile) Plus, Safari is a decent browser, especially on the older computers
UPD: tried opening a console. WTF
I might switch to laptop - i dont want to use Chrome
a - it eats up too much of RAM
b - it doesn’t remember my passwords ( Neither do I, that’s the point )
c - I like Safari’s interface much more
d - It takes so long to launch it
e - hh
Dunno tf has changed – it used to work this week. Tried installing a newer JAVA, enabling/disabling everything i could find in the developer menu - didnt work
Firefox ftw! Seriously, never been more satisfied with an internet browser
