Xero

Im going to quite a lot of music fairs this and next month in London, would be the most amazing find if I got one in a bargin bin :stuck_out_tongue:

Problem is, how many were made? Their are only 999 copies of Hybrid Theory EP and they go for silly money because they are so rare and that was when they had money to print an extensive amount, Xero only played around 5 shows if im correct, and I doubt they got paid much at all. So how many copies of Xero are their in existence, probably less than 100 because they had to front the money.
There are 998 even less. 2 are gone (1 sat on, the other lost in Mail). Xero Tapes the Baby version there are a tad bit more than the Shopping Cart one, but well the Shopping Cart is rarer. I would say probably less than 500 Tapes combined.

Sean Dowdell Tape, Iā€™ve only heard there are 4 known to exist and I own one of them
Your mostly right my friend. Officially only 2 Sean Dowdell tapes have come into the public view which includes yours of course :). The shopping cart is probably well under 500 copies with the baby being about that or a bit more. Shame no CD versions exist of it.
Iā€™d guess not even 100. Probably 50 and less

Donā€™t forget it was homemade, cassettes were relatively expensive, writing on the tape took a very very long time (they were probably producing about 5 tapes a day).

Succesfull writing attemps were also rare, lots of errors during the writing, poor audio qualityā€¦ All these factors would probably lead to narrow the number of existing tapes to about 10 (people would have thrown it away, or lost, or simply reused).

10 ones, probably 5 of them belong to someone who dosenā€™t even know about its value (probably in an old basement / attic) so only 5 remain, probably locked up in a secure place, and one that belongs to Mike

Itā€™s an approximation but I think it would be plausible, what do you think?
more than that exist. lets say 100 were made, collectors have aboutā€¦ 8? There are underground collectors who donā€™t show off what they have, which is a shame. id say a couple maybe destroyed somehowā€¦ and the rest, 80 are floating around in boxes in peoples homes and friends of the band or in storage or 2nd hand shops around Cali. and of course im guessing mike has a couple.

The Sean Dowdell & His Friends? tape is in the same boat. Will has one, the seller who will got his from also has one. (bought from sean dowdell) and there is another that the picture has been floating around from the LPA. and im guessing 1 or 2 more elsewhere that collectors have. Around 4?

Here is an example
Half way down.
Grey Daze - Ć¢ļæ½Ā¦No Sun Today
Grey Daze - Sean Dowdell And His Friends? (Cassette Demo)
Grey Daze - Wake Me

Its not like they have all been destroyed and only a couple left. Who just destroys them? And people who would have bought the stuff would have been friends or fans. Fans would keep them because they would have met the band personally and wouldnā€™t just throw them away. Some friends would know what they are worth too. Im guessing that person up there was a friend of Chester or Sean or good fan. He doesnā€™t seem to have any LP stuff, but he has grey daze and SD&HF tape.

I was actually gonna join those boards and message the member but I totally forgot about it xD. I think maybe 100-200 might be a better number for the Xero tapes, so you guys are probably right, One day i just hope to find that Xero Shopping Cart Tape and the Raw Power Sampler and call it a day (retire) :D. Or maybe sooner :stuck_out_tongue: lol

Mike in a meet and greet said that the shopping cart version where only made about 2 dozensā€¦ maybe where made just for promote in they firsts gigsā€¦

After SDAHF broke, they used some tapes of them to record grey daze jam sessions.

*Curious fact: The son ā€œWake Meā€ is the only song played by Grey Daze wich was played before by SDAHFā€¦ maybe it was a ā€œhitā€ in that moment for the local sceneā€¦

2 Dozens? Sounds like a really low number, but if it comes directly from Mike than we can take that as a fact. I wanted to ask Brad if anyone in the Band owns the Tape but didnā€™t answer my question --. I think u can make that 23 Tapes since well mine (Shopping Cart0 got lost in the mail --ā€™.

WOW, I never knew they just reused the SDaHF tapes for Jam Sessions. So yeah the number to have the actual recorded songs must be like really low.

But does Xeroweb.tk still exist?

Cause I searched for it and I could only find a domain search engineā€¦

And here are some pics of the demo:

Baby (one of these tapes was sold for 300$ on eBay)

Shopping Cart one (older):

The show with SOAD:

Flyers of the shows:

Ok, do you have enough now? XD

Anyone of you know how much would both No Sun Today and Wake Me albums would cost? :stuck_out_tongue:

I actually have a fully remastered, digital copy of Xero is anyone wants it - I cant remember where the source was but he did a damn good job, was from another, older LP community on the net.

This may be of interest

Reading down their is a post that suggests they were signed after their second gig (and we can confirm that their was only 2 gigs) to Zomba publishing. I bet that if you want to find a Xero tape, its gonna be through Zomba.

Oh and I found this to just make us collectors all cry.

Edit: Sent an email to Jeff Blue to find out some more information, stay tuned!

Iā€™d Like to add that the last Xero Tape (Baby Version) to pop up on eBay sold for nearly $1000.
