I recently just received my LPU mech but I had to pay R330 import duties to the SA Post Office ;(
Did you guys pay a similar amount for import duties?
Cause the import duties should be R30 handling fee and 14% of the Foreign currency value of the goods. My brother paid for the good s but didnt get a receipt.
Hence, import duties should be:
R30 + ($60*14%=8.4 * avg exg rate of R8.5 = R101.40
Can anyone verify my logic?
I don’t know anything about SA custom fees. If your facts are correct, that you have to pay 30 + 14% - what sounds like a realistic sum - than you payed to much. But without an receipt it’s very chanceless to get your money back, right? Try to get over it and be happy about you LPU package. That the only advice I can give.
R330 sounds too much. I’ve imported stuff way more expensive and I paid less. Your calculation of around R100 sounds reasonable. That said, I might also pay that much. Who knows? Will let you know as soon as mine arrives.
I just got a call from the post office. I have a package and I need to pay R346.87. I have no idea if this is my LPU package, but from bjorn’s description, it sure sounds that way. It is too late to pick it up now, but I will check tomorrow. This is VERY expensive. Could some other LPU members from SA tell us how much they paid in import duties?

I think we’re talking about LPU11 package. Strangely I didn’t pay duty for that first one, but recently I bought second pack on 30% discount, and I had to pay 75pln duty for a package worth 70$ (1$=3,30pln) - that’s over 25% duty. Wierd that the first one was duty-free[neutral]
That is very strange Andrus. We are paying around $40 import duty for a $60 package. That is insane!
@RobzLegacy, the amount quoted to me by the post office is R346.87 to be exact. I still have to go and collect it, but I am upset to say the least.
We all know there are many theves, post office/customs are one of them. I had to pay customs fee several times and yeah that sucks. Imho there is nothing you can do about the fee itself, either pay or forget (what would customs officers say hah)
btw. each lpu fanclub package I got was duty-free so other country=different fees or just stupid taxes and/or people 
Michalangelo, you make a good point. I figured that there would be customs duty to pay, but the price seems waaay to excessive to be reasonable. I’ve imported stuff from the US before, some of which was way more expensive than the LPU package. Even then I had to pay less duty. I just want to know how the amount is calculated so I can understand why we have to pay so much.
I also paid 347… I have been meaning to query it because my vat was like 100…

you should check at the customs website in your country. There should be a calculator of some sort or just any info about the % from the item value that you have to pay.
Eish, R330 is steep - I’m still waiting for mine (been 8 weeks so far) but will let you know what it is when it arrives.
The SA import duties are crazy - I bought a Chelsea soccer jersery for my sister from the UK and paid R700 duties for a R800 jersery.
How long did it take for your LPU11 to arrive and were your called / e-mailed?
Well Vishaan, mine was shipped on 07/25/2012 and I received the call yesterday that it is at the post office.
eish, my one was “quoted” to be shipped 5 days later than Rikus, let hope I could receive mine soon…[sad]
Got mine more than 2 weeks ago, also had to pay the stupid amount of R330. But all in all R800 for LP flag & shirt and other goodies plus early access and the pre purchase of the tickets. I dont mind at all.
Well as posted in other thread received my package about 2-3 weeks ago paid over R300+ for custom thiefs.
My wifes package shipped same day as mine but still has not arrived and will have to pay another R300+
for when it arrives.
Indeed I have imported a lot of things but never paid this much for customs!
Imported more expensive goods from UK, USA, Germany but the customs on LPU Mech is surely not correct!
But all in all got my merch and happy 
just waiting on second package!

My pack was supposedly shipped on 30 July. Still nothing has arrived. Ground Ctrl support say there’s no way tracking it either! 
It looks like SA Post Office is handling deliveries (from what you guys are saying) which makes me uneasy… I think I need to go into the post office and see if they’ve got any package for me. Really really hope no one has decided to hijack my merchandise!! ;(
Nikesh, I don’t think there is any need to panic just yet. If your package shipped 5 days later than mine, surely it will arrive 5 days later, give or take a couple of days depending on where you live.
So…I just went to the post office and surprise! My merchandise was there waiting for me! 
It had only arrived yesterday in fact. I ended up paying R321 in fees. Annoying but at least I got my stuff intact!!
