"One More Light" Mega-Topic, Out Now!

But it did sound quite generic at the time. So did ALTNC. However those 2 did have more originality.

ALTNC sounds more like LP yet, and I liked the song, so catchy and powerful

About Heavy, I think itā€™s a new direction for the band and we as fans must respect that. I know that many of us wil not get used to it, but we have to swallow our pride and support these guys. For now, I like what Iā€™ve heard and Iā€™m pretty optimistic about OML and how it will sound

And what Iā€™m most upset about is that the album will be released after the concert in Brazil :frowning: I was hoping to listen more songs, but it wonā€™t happen so soon :s

I respect the song and the new look for this project, Im just afraid the songs would sound empty and basic just by follow the new minimalist fashion on music and artwork.
Theyā€™ve said there will be various sound layers and content, so I keep my hope yet, I want to see how they used those boxes, bongoes and Rob drums they recorded.
Even if these will be just 10 songs.

I listen to this song for the whole day now, and if you connect it with something in your life, it keeps getting better and better with every replayšŸ˜‚ Of course I feel that something is missing, but still, itā€™s not that bad
Heavy got some Linkin Park elements, but they like ā€œcoveredā€ with vocals and beats. Though, you can hear some different melodies and sounds

I have warmed up to it a bit. The lack of any instruments other than percussion and keyboards and synths bothers me a bit, but I love the vocals here. Lyrics havenā€™t grown on me at all, but the melody is great. I like the beat, but it is a bit simple. I think the end of the song is the best part, closes put beautifully. The song isnā€™t my favorite, but itā€™s at least not as bad as Until It Breaks. I think the new album will be interesting, but I donā€™t know if it will be a favorite.

They could make up for this by ā€œreanimatingā€ The Hunting Party. Just a thought. . .

:scream::scream::scream::scream::scream::sob::sob::sob::sob:

Update: Songs grown on me a ton. Still not one of their best, but I can see myself thoroughly enjoying this new album. But it better be at least 30 minutes long with its ridiculously short track listing.

Did it grow on you, or did you force yourself to like it?

Iā€™m agreeing on this. And am super-psyched to hear the rest. Go LP

So, my opinion about the live streamingā€¦
I liked their performance. For Heavy, I liked more the vocals in this presentation than in the song released. I think Chester appeared more on the second part of the music.
And I guess Iā€™ve never listened to BID acoustic. And I think Kiiaraā€™s voice stayed good on it. And also Mike singing, not rapping, surprised me. Really liked it.

And about the album sounding like Heavy. I hope we can hear more of guitars and drums in the rest of the CD. I liked Heavy from the start, it already grew on me (I passed all day singing it), but if we wonā€™t get Chesterā€™s screaming, at least it could be more rocker.

I donā€™t force myself to like anything. Iā€™ve listened to it several times, listening for flaws. I still hate that there is no guitar. I still think the lyrics are boring and clichĆ©. But the melody is good, the vocal power is good, and the beat is alright. I am openly a fan of pop music, and I donā€™t have a problem with a rock band going pop. I totally understand why people donā€™t like the song. But personally, I find it enjoyable and just a little over passable. Probably will be the weakest song on the album.
If I had to rate it, 3.5/5. Not great, but decent. Not the worst thing ever.

So what youā€™re saying is youā€™re openly gay, basically.

Just kidding, JUST KIDDING!!! lol

I try to listen for the parts of the music that I like, not the flaws.

This is an interesting interview, I enjoy real talk stuff:

@tenkaichi I normally listen for what I like, but Iā€™m in my critic state of mind when Iā€™m trying to judge music by a band I like. That way I can be a bit more objective. When itā€™s music by a band Iā€™ve never heard, I donā€™t have the bias. I try to look past the bias.
@evooba I liked that interview a lot too. I was really excited when Mike said less rap, more singing. So prepared for some harmonies

Yeah soā€¦ Heavyā€¦
Well, ā€œHeavyā€ is truly a heavy disappointment imo. Hate on me all you want.

I have been a fan ever since the release of In The End, so I am on the LP train for over 15 years. I have supported and mostly liked whatever they did, until now. That song is seriously just not supportable for me anymore. This ainā€™t no progress or evolution, this is making at least 10 steps back, as it is nothing more but a desperate mainstream popsong. Gotta give credit tho, it is catchy, sounds good on some parts and the beat is good. However, nothing on the level of what an usual Linkin Park song has been before.
It is simply a huge downgrade in every aspect. From epic, unique and thoughtful lyrics like In The End to something so simple, cringeworthy & emo-ish. From epic features to feat some no name teen, who even nails the song better than Chester. Honestly, itā€™s Kiira feat. Chester. From one of the greatest rock bands to mainstream pop, and I dare to say because THP wasnā€™t played on the radio often enough (if at all). From legends to ā€œpls listen to us kids, we donā€™t want to be forgottenā€.
If THIS is the result of 3 years waiting, I have waited in vain. Joe, Phoenix, Rob and Brad arenā€™t even involved in that song. Most likely fapped in their basements while this was recorded.
Not only that the music quality is decreasing instead of progressing, their live shows do too. Ever since their ATS World Tour, it feels like they just wanna get this over with to keep their fans satisfied. The M&Gā€™s are a rush through joke. The interaction with fans meanwhile the concert always awkward and standard sentences. Even Imagine Dragons and especially Breaking Benjamin have performed way better live than Linkin Park over the last few years.

I have not much hope, nor any kind of hype for the upcoming album. Seems to be the first album I will not buy and, therefore, support. Album cover is just a crappy selfie on the beach even lol. If that is all you guys got left and want to head to in the future too, then I hope ā€œOne More Lightā€ is the last album you will do, as a farewell album. Title would be fitting and it would save you from losing your face and reputation. If you guys forgot how writing and creating a great song works, listen to Ricochet by Starset.

Regards,
A ā€œHeavyā€-ly disappointed fan.

Theyā€™re trying new stuff man. I donā€™t agree with it but Iā€™ll still go see shows and support them. If the manufacturer makes one ugly model, you gonna stop buying from them forever, even if theyā€™ve been pretty consistently good?

This may sound harsh, but if you think this song or album ā€œisnā€™t Linkin Parkā€ you probably arenā€™t a Linkin Park fan. You may be a fan of their music, and a huge fan at that, and I mean ā€œyouā€ as in anyone that thinks this ā€œisnā€™t Linkin Parkā€, not just @stefvlk, but from the begining, Linkin Park has always been about combining genres and has never labeled themselves as a single genre. This is a quote directly off their website from 2001

While itā€™s perfectly understandable not everyone is going to like every genre they cross into or every song they make, to say this isnā€™t Linkin Park or they arenā€™t progressing as a band is completely wrong, and if youā€™ve been a fan since Hybrid Theory or even Minutes to Midnight at this point, I donā€™t know how you havenā€™t realized this by now

Edit: Since I wasnā€™t clear I guess, Iā€™m not saying you canā€™t dislike a song or a choice the band makes (Iā€™m not saying ā€œyou canā€™tā€ anything, Iā€™m not the Linkin Park opinion dictator), I donā€™t agree with everything they do either

Amen
Thank you for explaining that
Hybrid holy hybrid geez
I have more respect for a band thatā€™ll cross boundaries cause in their 18 years theyā€™ve grown to have a collection of music that Iā€™d say is more varied than most people out there
You know there wonā€™t be a dull moment in their concerts and thatā€™s enough for me

Also thought it was funny, I was driving with it on when pulling up to a store someone asked what song it was so I suppose thatā€™s kinda what the band wanted with this single leading
It appeals to a different audience and maybe itā€™ll get people to like older stuff too
