Linkin Park Lip Sync!?!?!

OK. I understand that when touring and singing/screaming some of those notes can cause some damage to your voice and you can hurt your voice. I get it…

I was in the fourth row (H) section 101 at the recent Tinley Park, IL show on Aug 24th.
I saw Chester walking off stage with the microphone in his hand, down by his side, while a scream was being done during LIES GREED AND MISERY.

I was so disappointed to see this I sat out the rest of the concert and left before the encore. I’ve never left an LP concert before it was over.

This is a band that I have fought for and supported ever since the very first time hearing Breaking The Habit, which is my all-time favorite song, on the radio. Linkin Park’s lyrics have sincerely changed my life in more positive ways that I can even begin to explain.

How disappointing… My absolute favorite band puts themselves in the same category as Milli Vanilli and Ashley Simpson…

I’m not sure how I will handle this going forward but as for now:

Linkin Park, you have lost a long time and VERY loyal fan. Very sad.

Sincerely,
Ed Simanek

if you really left the show early, you propably did it for nothing…
this is the show we’re talking about, isn’t it

and I think you’ve heard that scream at around 2:57 at the end

so if that’s the case - everything its alright
what you hear is the echo thats on his microphone - they use it for years in many songs and it only repeats chesters screams and fades them out

Just like lamroBot said.
They don’t use lip sync or something like that. They just use heavy effects over their voices or vocoders. These echo effects are extreme sometimes, but I think it’s okay to use them.

The only thing they don’t do live for example is the bridge of Iridescent with the group vocals.

lmao laughed so hard hahaha bye bye long time “fan”

I don’t know what to feel when people think Chester is supposed to screams 457598 voices at the same time. He needs this back-up cuz he just can’t scream everything.

The same thing happens on the ‘18sec’ scream on ‘Given Up’. It’s a concert and we all know he’s like a kid with sugar high in the stage, so to spare some energy they use the same efect there.

Calm yo tits, bro, Chester is amazing, but give the guy a rest.

later dude… no room for haters here…

I guess we all make mistakes lol… hope after reading the comments you realize that Chester would NEVER do that… feel bad that you missed the encore for nothing…

I really just watched the whole video. No lipsync at all

No.

not sure what ur talking about dude, they DO NOT LIP SYNC! nothing on that show to indicate otherwise

I was there in the concert, the only possible lip syncing he could have done was during Given Up, and even then it was an obvious use of the Echo effect.

Like everyone’s said they use heavy effects and when there are multiple parts going on at once it’s normal for bands to use background voicing (ex. when in the studio they layered voices of possibly the same band member over the same part of the song).

This by no means puts them at an Ashlee Simpson level…and in all fairness lots of musicians use lip syncing or the type where the chorus will go on without them singing (as they catch their breath) but when they come back in, they are louder than the recording version so it sounds like background voices. It happens and honestly I don’t blame them for it. Some are a whole new level of terrible lip syncing but sometimes it has to be done.

First of all, I’ve seen this conversation dozens time over and the only reason why I’m replying to this is because I, myself, was at this concert in the pit 3rd row.

First of and foremost, the band does absolutely zero lip syncing. As others have said, there are dozens of vocal effects and echos during the concert. It’s quite noticeable really during songs like Given Up and New Divide.

Second of all, the band utilizes many many backing vocal replays during the live performances. On songs like Iridescent and Waiting For The End, the band utilizes studio replays of backing vocals behind the actual live vocals. Why, you ask? Because there are so many layers in the studio versions that a six man group isn’t enough. In Waiting For The End, Mike, Chester, Phoenix, and Joe are all singing and there’s still backing vocals being played.

It’s just a way to add extra layers and feeling into the live shows. No lip syncing anywhere. You can tell from the screams that they’re not studio screams. No matter how well Chester performs them, they never sound the same live.

any true fan of Linkin Park would know of the effects/echoes Chester uses during songs like Given Up, LIES GREED MISERY, etc… Linkin Park never has and, more than 100% sure, never will lip sync.

Sorry, I couldn’t help but laugh. This seems a little extreme though, no?

Having them been a, as you say, “band you have fought for,” you shouldn’t be so quick to jump to conclusions. But, if you insist, don’t let the door hit ou on the way out. kthxbai

If just thinking that Chester was doing that, made “Linkin Park lose a long time and Very loyal fan” Just means that you were never really a fan!!!
When you are a loyal fan and love them, you would know that they dont lip sync… If ur a fan, you love them no matter what, and LOYAL fans won’t go around talking shit about them and saying you dont know how you’ll handle it, and that they lost a fan.

I can’t believe I actually wasted my time with this. Just watched a video of the performance and that “scream” at the end was just a synth. No lip singing whatsoever. LP lip singing, no. LP using backing vocals on a few songs, yes. I’m glad you left the show and are no longer a fan because of stupidity. Good riddance. Thanks for wasting my time again.

Brb getting popcorn, I feel this conversation is going to be entertaining [biggrin]
