Geek thread - Discuss IT stuff

You know, I’m actually starting to appreciate that my current one is a decent laptop. Apart from W10 and the connection issue inside somewhere obviously.

That’s really important! I remember the previous one… felt like you’ll post "100 degrees! Century” one day

Towards the end I genuinely was waiting for it to hit 100.

Even me… to be honest!:laughing:

I have no doubt the Dell will be AWESOME…
Pretty sure you won’t be able to fry an egg on it!

Yeah first I’ve heard of that graphics card…meh…it’ll be sweet.

My current hp also has an intel card that I know nothing about either. I don’t even know what model it is.

So my laptop just came in and already it’s annoying me. I hate tech. Anyway, the annoyances aren’t anything big, just stuff to get used to.

For instance, it turns out it’s a 2 in 1 touchscreen, one with a screen that bends over backwards. That’s not something I will ever use but what bugs me is that they waste a lot of screen space around the edges because of it.

Also it doesn’t have a side keypad considering how much excess space there is on the surface of the laptop which is no big deal again, but what is more annoying is that the remaining keyboard has been offset one key to the right of where I’m used to, so my posts over the next week or so will contain a fair bit of gibberish as I get used to it :joy:

The only thing I can be reasonably annoyed at is that it does’t come with a CD drive (that’s my fault for not reading properly). I’ll have to burn my CDs on my old laptop and then transfer them with Onedrive or a usb stick.

Anyway, these are minor annoyances that I’m willing to put up with considering the specs. It’s currently updating so I’m still on my old one. I’ll make another post later when it gets set up and I can start monitoring the temps.

Perfect time to enjoy the go home you’re drunk thread :stuck_out_tongue:

Good idea, I forgot about that one.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?! :rage:

I can feel the heat radiating off of the keyboard with my face when I lean in to hear if the fans are actually working to cool it down.

Why are your laptops always overheating?

Because technology and I have a mutual hatred. Or the stupid rednecks in Texas don’t know how to build laptops either. I’ll give it a day or two to monitor it.

Maybe it has to do with your room or house… I don’t know haha

Yeah technology sure hates me too

I like my room cold, my parents always open my door when I’m not in :rage: but it’s no hotter than 22C.

To be honest, i’ve never understood what’s the sense of it. A full keyboard connecting like MS Surface and iPad Pro ones makes much more sense

WTF?!!! Again? Maybe your table is just too hot? :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s just a wooden Ikea table. Anyway, I’m trying to type from it right now. It seems that the temperatures spike when i open something at first and then gradually begin to normalise (but sometimes spike randomly anyway). That’s not normal behaviour. Maybe it’s an issue with the actual CPU, both this and the HPs had an i7 8550. I guess I’ll look into it now.
