That sounds like a pretty good rig. I’m not familiar with AMD’s GPUs nor with their CPU gaming performance, I know they’re pretty good for multicore performance. Also what monitor is he planning on going for and does he know what to check once it arrives? I.e. to look for any defects and bad assembly. Also does he know how to maintain a water loop? They’re more complicated than an air cooler.

Thats the screen

"I am not familiar with water cooling but I have a friend who has a clue

I don’t know how I test the PC however the provider where I have configured the PC does it"

Looks like a decent monitor on paper, though I’m not sure what MSI build quality is like these days. It used to be not so good.

Still worth a dig online to gain the knowledge. That way you can check all the fittings, conncetors, panels, thermal paste, etc…

My advice is if you’re going to go for a PC with custom parts, build it yourself. That way you learn. Or tear it down the moment you get it (once you’ve done some research on what to do obviously). It’s how I went from being a complete noob, to having some level of understanding of how PCs work, despite having never touched a desktop.

He has ordered now.

Thanks to you and @framos1792

:joy: not really seeing that, but who knows

I finally bit the bullet and decided to pick up some wireless buds. I’m not a fan of wireless headphones because of needing to charge batteries and because off the inevitable sound quality loss over transmission. I wasn’t even planning on picking up a pair, but I was stalking Sennheiser’s website and saw that they had been reduced from £170 to £70 and decided to give them a bash. I went for Sennheiser Momentum Free SEs.

I’m hoping technology has improved enough such that there isn’t a noticeable quality drop over bluetooth. Should make for an interesting comparison against my cheap and wired CX3.0s (buds which I’m perfectly happy with and have used near-daily for a few years now).

I’d buy Marshall if I were you. I own one pair of wireless Major III (but they’re not in-ear ones) and it’s great. I charge it every 1,5 weeks …

The only noticeable problem is that the sound changing lags sometimes … a bit. But still they sound really really awesome and have a good isolation - a great one. All that for 60 pounds. 60.

More on topic - look at that dude ! This is one piece of unbreakable technology. 15 years old Panasonic - still works even though we’ve lost the remote and new universal remotes don’t seem to function with it (maybe the signal is different - I dunno). Dad brought it home last weekend
This guy is actually straight from my childhood! It has been at father’s cabinet all these years

I want something small to fit in my pockets and not get in the way, otherwise I’d get a pair if good wired over-ears (like some HD 598Ss) and a Fiio µBTR bluetooth amp and call it a day. Like I said before, I’m happy with my ~£40 CX3.0s, I just got these because they were on a good deal.

First impressions of the Momentum Free Wireless buds (compared to my wired CX3.00):

Sound quality is surprisingly good, no drop in transmission that I can tell. The lows have more detail and the highs aren’t as shrill so won’t make my ears bleed. I’m crap at judging mids, but they appear roughly the same.

Transmission range is pretty good, I managed to walk around the entire house with my phone in my room and the only place I got a short signal drop was walking up and down the stairs.

In terms of wearing them, they’re not as intrusive or annoying as I thought (though that remains to be seen with real use over the next few days). The buds themselves are a bit bigger than the CX3s, but they seem to share the same plugs and ‘front panel’.

Other things to mention are that battery performance is to be seen, they came with a range of plug sizes and a suprisingly nice, leather (real leather from what I can tell), hardcase. Although, the case is a bit big to fit in pockets.

Overall, I’m liking them so far, they’re good buds. £170 good? Definitely not. £70 good? It’s a little steep, but I’d pay it given that they’re wireless. Would I recommend them? At £70, yeah. Over my CX3s? Only if you’re really that fussed about wires or want the better sound quality. Or if you were an idiot and bought a phone without a jack. Although, bluetooth amps exist. lol

In other news, I finally mamanged to crack my phone. The back at least. I had it on top of my leg while I was sitting down and it slid off and landed on the back. I suspect it only cracked because I botched the panel back on myself. I left a slight air gap which let the glass flex enough to crack it. Previously, the shock would have been dissipated by the aluminium chassis and the electronics.

This is the first time I’ve dropped it since the botch and given what I’ve put it through before (dropping it 1m out of a window onto some rocks, flinging it into my celing and denting my celiing and more) and it not taking any damage, it stands to reason that it likely happened because of my shoddy repair job. Phone still works just fine and I think the cracks look kind of cool, especially with the ruined foil behind the glass. If I don’t like it, I can always put a fake carbon fibre sticker on it.

How or better why did you do that?

It was an accident. I had left it on my un-made bed, it had gotten buried in the duvet and I accidentally shot it into the ceiling when I went to make my bed. :joy:

WOWOW i didn’t know about this thread in LP forum…
So, expecting some programmers here, Anyone wanna join the roller coster ride?

The only person I know who actively programs here is @mish3lka and she hasn’t been around in a while. I personally loathe programming with every fibre of my being :joy:. Don’t let that stop you from posting though. 80% of what I post makes no sense to anyone. LOL

Looks like the high end 10th gen mobile Intel CPUs are starting to come out. Not a massive improvement over 9th gen. Nvidia seem to have also released their 2020 mobile GPUs. The revision of the XPS 15 is also just around the corner. From the below tables, my guess would be that the top spec version would be an i9 with a 1650-Ti, it makes the most sense since the 9560 (my one) had a 1050, then the 9570 went to a 1050-Ti and the current 7590 had a 1650. I’m just hoping they ditch the 2.5" drive bay and add extra M.2 slots. I’m also hoping the 17 happens and has at least a 1660-Ti.

Dell accidentally leaked and image of the Precision and XPS update on their site.

How the mighty fall. Short of a couple of high-end Thinkpads, the XPS was the last laptop with actual ports, and it too is now dead. At least the 17 is actually happening and it looks like it has an SD reader. The keyboards also look like they have integrated power buttons with print readers where the delete key should be (not a fan of that). The 7000 series precisions should still maintain their ports, the 5000s were just re-named XPSs. Also you have to pay 20% VAT above list price for a Precision because you can only buy it from their enterprise site.

I’m really conflicted about this, hope they release them officially soon.

As much as don’t like the decision, I’ll probably still end up getting a 17 at some point when its issues become known, because a 17" non-gaming laptop is an even bigger rarity than a laptop with ports.

Once the lockdown is over I’m gonna sell my current Mac and some old tech as well and will buy myself a new one because this late 2012 model is getting really old and messy. I could get myself a working machine for much less amount of money but I need Apple as I need it’s environment I work deeply in
