Albums and EPs of 2019

It’s that time again. What were the best and worst albums of the year for you?

It’s a long list for me so I’m splitting it into albums and EPs. Not in any real order.

Top 10 albums:

  • Starset - Divisions
  • Slipknot - We are not your kind
  • Hilltop Hoods - The great expanse
  • Fever 333 - Strength in numb333rs
  • Papa Roach - Who do you trust?
  • Of Mice & Men - Earth and sky (really didn’t expect to like this one so much)
  • White Noise Owl - Condition critical (they finally released it)
  • I Prevail - Trauma
  • While She Sleeps - So what?
  • Jinjer - Macro

Honourable mentions:

  • Stone age mammoth - Riffedelic
  • Hey Satan - Orange moon
  • Acid Alice - The road
  • Gorm - Gorm
  • Universal Hippies - Astral visions
  • Tool - Fear inoculum
  • Phedora - The spire

EPs:

  • Tom Thum - Ratchet face
  • Vex Red - Give me the dark (didn’t think this band would ever release anything since their last and only release was in 02)
  • Jinjer - Micro (yes, Jinjer again)
  • Red - The evening hate
  • Mantra - Soundtrack to the end of the word
  • Auralnauts - Star Wars: Dark Side
  • @rickvanmeijel and @MenyaNet - Millions of simple lights

Disappointments:

  • Korn - The nothing (It didn’t seem to have the same kind of energy as the last album for some reason)
  • Skillet - Victorious (their past couple of albums have been getting very repetitive)
  • Born of Osiris - The simulation (I just wasn’t feeling it)

It’s not bad, they’re just electronic remixes of John Williams’ tracks.

My Top albums of the year 2019:

  • SlipKnot - We are not your kind
  • KoRn - The Nothing
  • Papa Roach - Who do you trust
  • Sum 41 - Order in Decline
  • Rammstein - selftitled 2019
  • Callejon - Hartgeld im Club (German Band)

can’t rank them.

special songs/top songs besides whole albums/singles:

  • Mark Morton feat. Chester Bennington - Cross off
  • Ozzy Osbourne - Under the graveyard
  • Ozzy Osbourne - Straight to hell

half good/half dissapointments

  • Blink 182 - Nine (Come on, where are my oldschool Blink 182 guys with that oldschool US Punk sound? The sound is ‘ok’ but I was very hyped, and my hyped was killed by the release of the album. Also I really miss Tom . But the ‘another christmas song’ (not on the album) and ‘Darkside’ (besides the music video) are really awesome.

  • Skillet - Victorious (it’s ok, but I want that ‘Awake’ time back and of course this sound and lyrics!)

I don’t mean to be thattttt guy…but…don’t we have topics for this every year?
The forums would be much cleaner if we just used the same ones and continue on with it the next year

How about singles in 2019 ???

I don’t keep track of singles.

I expected something like that, I might give it a chance

I fucking loved Blink 182 - Nine  ! I don’t know why fans don’t like this album but it’s pretty dark in tone and more emotional, but that’s life.

Sum 41 - Order in Decline, keeping it alive :metal:

Shinedown - Attention Attention, missed this last year whoops…

Fall Out Boy - Believers Never Die (Volume 2), because I’m keeping the faith  And my favourite ever album artwork of all time.

Peace out 2019!

2020 - Linkin Park

It’s not that bad, it’s sometimes 50:50 - some songs really get me but after “California” (was lil better than Nine) I wanted some oldschool sound. Just look at the “darkside music video” it’s like a fusion with Disney Channel - I mean ’ WTF were happened with this band, who made so many jokes about boy bands, society and even more’ ? - but the song is awesome.

So and then look at ‘Order in Decline’ - Sum 41 proofed there’s a way to bring back this ‘hard alternative punk sound’, for example ‘out for blood’ + the music video. OiD is so awesome and it has only 10 songs - I’m so hyped to see and hear these guys finally live in January 2020 :metal:t2:

I think the video was trying to be ironic. It’s practically showing the opposite of the “darkside” with kids dancing around and looking happy. For example, the video starts with a cute little girl looking happy but the lyrics are so dark in tone. Therefore it’s actually more about the loss of youth and carefree exists we had as kids to the seemingly never ending misery of being an adult - how this girl could become the girl in these lyrics (depressed/in pain):

"She’s a girl dressed in black from another world
Lives and breathes like a girl from another world
She don’t know my name
She don’t have the time of day
Celebrate, medicate, til we numb the pain
In the sun, it’s still dark, like it always rains
She don’t feel the same
She don’t have the time of day."

I think the video is very misunderstood, it actually makes the song cheery when the lyrics are extremely dark in nature. I think the video is lovely because we hope for better for our future generations and that they’ll be happy in life even if could not. Sorry for the long explanation but I think just try to understand that Mark was writing from his heart about depression and the constant struggle of living with this illness.

Blink 182 - I’m going to the darkside with you.

This
And quite simply, not everything has to be dark
Bit of a good change of pace to see happy kids as opposed to shitty news and dark images

Well said. Matt looks incredibly awkward throughout the video which is also hilarious, whereas Mark and Travis are totally comfortable because they’re like we’ve done crazier shit

I keep getting notifications of people replying to me in this thread but I haven’t posted anything in a while.

I’m still making my lists for 2019 and the decade. Once ready, I’ll share them.
