I was thinking in some name Greek, Roman or Nordic God.
It could fit in your history saying that in the past, that village’s people were fighter and soldiers, but one day other town came up to fight.
The people asked for (the God’s name) helps. He/She helped them and the people, in gratitude, renamed the village with his/her name.
