I got an contract with the publisher. It is a standard contract, but still, you loose a lot of rights. And it could have come worse, I could have hated the cover, or she could have changed the title, or even the text inside.
So I am happy as it is.
Earning is then 8% of a books sell.

Wow! All fingers crossed for you! :crossed_fingers:
I for sure will read it!

No. A blog, but there I write in German and just about sheep.

It is in German.
The rights for translation are also with the publisher. It is a small publishing house, so no English.
:hugs:

Days like yesterday

As I controll the flock first thing in the morning, there are two new mothers, one with twins. This means, she and her babys have to go into the barn, so we have a better view on them.

20200228_092628

But for now, the little bellys are round and the mom very caring, so no hurry.
I collect the fences from the day before and go, build them up further down the road. A very hilly, slippery place. 10 fences with 50m a fence.
I haven’t eaten enough last evening, so I get a little dizzy and am really happy to come home for lunch. I also need to put more air on one of the back tires of the car, it looses it so fast, I do this twice a day.
After this I want to leave the farm again, this time with the trailer. Cause of the one way road I don’t want to use the big for horses one. But the little sheep trailer has one of its walls down. So I use some rope and fix it for now, off we go.
First thing at the flock is turning the car. There is a small forest road up, I think, if I hit it really fast, I should get far enough to turn the car with the trailer.
But no, the car stopes to soon, just to much mudd.

20200229_185151

Now I’m happy to just have the small trailer, this one I can turn by hand.
As I loosen it from the car, I can’t hold it and it gos down, stops in the deep groove.
All my struggles to turn the trailer fail.
But there is enough room to turn the car and just enough space to pass the trailer.
Now I can fix car and trailer together with a rope.

20200228_142818

20200228_143808

It works! I get the trailer in the right position to hitch it to the car.
Yeah!
Where is the mom with the twins?
In the morning, she was right beside the road. Now, I can’t see here anywhere and have to assume, she made her way through the hedges, up the hill. I leave the dogs in the car, don’t want to disturb the sheep, and climb the slope.
There they are. Normally, I take the lambs and the mother follows. But this is a young mom and no, she don’t trust me, won’t come along.
So I take the two lambs and the third of the other new mom and slide down the slippery hillside. Meanwhile calling the flock to follow me.
Without the dogs? Why should we?
Grrrr
So I place the lambs by the trailer and let the dogs out. The flock on the hillside isn’t visible to us, to much hedges. I can’t send the dogs in blind, they would crash into the flock, the sheep would panic and run down the fence on top of the slope. Happy to have a reason to enter the green and totally forbidden farmland there.
So I have to climb the hill again, push the flock down.
Now the mom. You never get a running sheep, way to fast for you.
So I gather the flock near the car.
Where is the mother? There!
Now I run, other sheep block her escape and I can catch her, drag her to the trailer.
Look, here are your babys, all fine.

20200228_170849

The flock meanwhile is already really impatient to get to new pasture.
Yeah, we are going now, come, come!
And they do. Actually they want to be fast, but no! We have to go slowly, so the other new mom and her baby don’t get lost.

20200228_153231

It works fine and the sheep are happily grazing.
I and the dogs walk back, time to climb the slope again, taking down fences.

20200228_164925

I feel like Daryl Dixon, just that I’m not that stupid to shoot me with my own crossbow. Ok, I see that this isn’t really counting.

20200228_144740

But I’m still happy as I have all 13 fences down and can finally drive home. It’s getting dark after all and the mom with her twins need some place in the barn.
This is one of those days, where I’m that exhausted, that I feel shaky and would like to cry.
But work is done, I get a hot shower, a cold beer and a delicious meal.
A kingdom for bed and sleep.
Even so I’m out of my silence, forum has to wait a little longer. :kissing_heart:

Someone had said that you are hopeless with spellings. Now I know what he meant. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
One suggestion: Eat healthy and tummyfull everyday. A healthy shepherd is a role model for the sheeps and lambs.

Do you have name for all the sheeps? I seriously want to know this.

I enjoyed reading about your day. My day is not this physically active so I liked it a lot. Next time, I would love to see the lamb throwing tantrums. It would be fun for me atleast.
Congrats on good work.

I loved reading your story, was really interesting! Also, i was the whole time afraid something would happen to the mom with the twins or the other sheep:joy::grin:fortunately not!

I also love how they kind of have different hair styles:joy::heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

Yeah, good question, and also if you don’t, do you recognize them? Like, who is who? and do you have favourite sheep? Or are they all nice?

This would have been my second queation.

I can answer that before @anna834 replies. They are all nice and are friends with the dogs too.

Nothing new with this. Feel free to give corrections.

I work on different farms and it depends on the flock. In this one, there are no ones with names. It’s something that is important for the owner, or not. Sheep don’t care about names. They live their life in the flock, even have some hive mind and memory.

Thank you! :hugs:

Thank you :hugs:

Hey Anna Maria :hugs:
Just posted some writing stuff. If you don’t want to be tagged for it, just yell at me.

I can remember faces. Easier of course whis such a mixed flock. And yeah, I have favourite sheep. Not in this flock, jet. They needed a long time to just trust me as a flock, no special one till today.
As I had my own sheep, as the kids were little and I didn’t work (couldn’t totally without sheep ) they all had names. I started with 6 and had 34 at the end. Started working again and couldn’t manage working as shepherd and have sheep for a hobby. So I gave them to another farm in a big flock. And even 2 years later, they recognised me and came to me .
That is it with sheep, they need a long time to trust. But if you gain it, you won’t ever loose it again. I’m a sheep in that way

Thank you! :hugs:

So not true!!! :joy:
As much as they are herd animals as much they are individualistic too. You have the ones always close to you, the panicky, the bolt, the ones that are real assholes.
And they aren’t really frinds with the dogs. The dogs control them, keep them in line. There are some who are very obedient to the dogs, some always testing. And they know exactly how far they can bring it with which dog.

:hugs: :hugs:

Isn’t this friendsheep? hahahahahuhuhuhu

They are tricking you. Once you know that each sheep, lamb and dog has a name and you figure out other secrets, they befriend you so that you do not spill over the secrets.
I know.

Cool! I’ll read it in free time, thanks for tag :hugs:
