No, I was up at the Susten Pass, at the 2224m mark (we didn’t go higher because my sister had developed a sudden fear of heights :expressionless:) and a storm started brewing as we were leaving. We were in a car so it wouldn’t have been so bad if we’d stayed up there, since it’s essentially a Faraday cage. It picked up when were were on the motorway in the valley going back to the hotel. I’m still really annoyed that we didn’t get to go higher.

That wasn’t the one who is forever in my memories as totally scary. There was the land way more open. Sticking my shepherd crook into the ground. Hoping the lightning would strike the stick and not me, sitting in a trench.

@lpaniist :hugs: :heart:
And curious, is the lightning in the mountains nearer to earth? And how is the thunder sounds between the rocks?

Awesome pics! :heart_eyes:

Tbh, I didn’t really look at the lightning as I ran as fast as I could (:sweat_smile:) Tatras aren’t that high (the storm caught us at like 2100 m. above sea level), so I don’t think there’s a difference…
But the sound of the storm was sick. It was echoing from all sides really loudly so it gave me the feeling that the storm is even closer that it really was

Wow!
What a story!
Tanks!
Related it to my son. Hey, its like the stone giants fight in the Hobbit. And you, right in between! :astonished:
Hope you have a good day today! :hugs:

Think again, you need 1KV of electricity to cause an arc across 1cm of air. Getting 2.1km closer to the lightning brings down the required voltage for a strike by 210KV.

Okay :sweat_smile:

:joy::joy::rofl:

Sure. Rob would think about this stuff while dodging lightning bolts.
Lol

Actually I’d think about it before, to see if it’s worth running in the first place.
