“What’s in the Eye” remaster by Grey Daze, January 16

Most bigger fans of the band or Chester have probably already heard this song in its original state, and I know some people feel iffy about hearing new music with his vocals after his passing, but I feel it’s still worth discussing here

I’m posting this here again:

Here’s a YouTube link with a countdown to the official premiere

It was apparently played on the radio in Arizona today for the first time, there’s a clip of the dude talking about the history before the song plays but I can’t upload video files to the forum

Is it that there isn’t any ‘new’ vocals by Chester but more of remastered versions of the Grey Daze songs? I’m not sure this is considered his last music but nice to see the band re-releasing this in his memory.

I’ve seen conflicting info on if he did record any new vocals in general, but it sounds like this song for sure the original vocals from when he was 17, which I didn’t know he was that young to be honest

From the comment on the YouTube video it seems they didn’t record as planned sadly. Wow 17, his voice sounds so pure  I’m just waiting to hear some unreleased Linkin Park songs that didn’t make the cut on OML :pensive:

I had to crop the video to be able to upload it on Discord (doesn’t really matter, it’s mostly audio related anyways) but here it is

Hey @alz89 you’ve already listened, couldn’t you tell us a little

I imagine it isn’t going to sound a ton different than the original

If so, It’s astonishing. Didn’t they always say, he just found his own voice with Linkin Park?
It’s so him.

Love that song.

Even though this is flooding my news feed right now, just like I did with One More Light, I’m going to wait to hear the entire album when it’s released.

Ups.
You mean we should shut up spoiling? :grimacing:

Spoil away! I’m just ignoring this thread. :stuck_out_tongue:

After giving it a few listens and comparing it to the other two versions, while I like this one, I think I still like the …no sun today version more, I really like the 90s sound to it

It’s out now so enjoy!

I read that Sean Dowell (spelling?) explained that all of Chester’s vocals on this album were recorded in the nineties. Though he did say that they have included previously unreleased takes

So this is more a remembrance with using old recordings than a actually planned with him thing?

You could see it that way yes. I believe they did re-record all the music, so there is new stuff as well

Slightly old news, but there’s a physical single to buy, and in my opinion it’s pretty cheap from what I’ve paid for singles (though they’ve typically been from eBay)
