What made you a fan of LP and when?

I’m sure there have been threads in the past on this topic, but they’re buried deep somewhere I bet. So as a way for me to get to know some of this community better, and to have a good ol’ discussion, what made you get into Linkin Park?

I’ll kick things off:
Whilst I loved “Numb” when it first received radio play here in Australia, I had never actually listened to Linkin Park. Naturally downloading music was hard for a then 8 year old. I enjoyed the song but never owned a copy until a couple years later when “Numb/Encore” made its debut. Still, music was hard for me to get as a 10 year old.

Despite numerous singles receiving air play, it wasn’t until “New Divide” came around in 2009 with Transformers that actually got me looking into the bands discography itself. I consider myself lucky in this way, as I feel as being exposed to these 2 songs, radically different, and loving them both is what got me into the band. I actively followed any all news after the release of “New Divide” has my interest had peaked and I was now desperately awaiting the release of a new album. Boy was I not disappointed, I loved “A Thousand Suns.” Watching the short recording session preview of what we now know as “When They Come For Me” on YouTube still gets me super excited. Something about Brad shouting with that megaphone got me insanely pumped.

So what got you into the band?

To be honest, I used to not to know the band till my cousin who gave me their first 2 albums, HT and Meteora. At that point of time, it’s the release month for Collision Course. My local TV channel will always show the TV ads and I thought Brad was Jay-Z and my cousin corrected me and since then, I went online for on-going research, reading their stories, how it started and how many obstacles they went through to become today’s one of the biggest rock band in the world. It inspired me as they never gave up!

Now, rotate backwards a bit more, the songs, I got poisoned by the song OSC first and followed by Faint and lastly Numb. At that point, Numb is more like deeply engraved to my life. I was victim of class gang-up bully, I was being outcasted and my life was miserable. I always use Linkin Park songs to cheer myself up.

And their recent song with Steve Aoki, it really says my life in college, I was being pinned down by lecturers who doesn’t like me, I have tried so hard but it’s not getting anywhere. It’s life chasing a light that never comes.

And slowly, my sisters gotten credit cards, I started buying a lot of things and slowly became a collector as well! First joined LPU from LPU5.

I think it was in 2004 (I was 14) when I was watching a music channel and In the End came on. I wasn’t particularly into rock music at the time so didn’t really know of LP. But that song changed everything. I looked up some of their other songs which I remember being; Numb, Somewhere I belong and Faint.

And that was that. I bought Hybrid Theory and Meteora and could not stop listening. Not only did they become my favourite band, they became the reason why I listen to rock/metal.

back when i was 10 years old and sitting in my basement listening to music videos with my brother on mtv, “crawling” came on. right away i declared this song as one of my top favorites. unfortunately i was only 10 years old and didnt know much about anything, including who the band was or where to even find music in the first place. it wasnt until probably 7 years down the road after Minutes to Midnight was released when i finally started to explore music (yes i know it took me that long to figure it out). I managed to find crawling and discover who the band was, and easily fell in love with all their music. it was pretty much the first band i ever fully listened to and now im crazy obsessed with their music and pretty much only their music.

Well I first heard LP one night while I was on the computer, and the local station played One Step Closer. I hadn’t heard the song for a couple weeks and was trying to find out what band did the song. I finally heard them again and caught the name. I purchased HT when it came out and ever since I’ve been a fan. I became a bigger fan when I saw the band wasn’t some rock band strung out of drugs, and only cared about sex and partying. They had bigger things in mind like helping people and serving a cause.

I can’t even really remember what made me a fan, but I remember that at the beginning of my fan career (lol) I was addicted to the Live in Texas DVD, the Rock am Ring 2004 show and Collision Course, so I guess that their live performance was an important factor in making me a fan. I really started listening to them on heavy rotation in 2004/2005 when I had just started uni. After MTM i was a bit bored by their music and didn’t listen to them for about two years. Then ATS came out and I was totally flashed. The y got me back for good then

I’ve been a fan forever, since I was little, I’d hear songs from Hybrid Theory and Meteora and loved it but never found out what it was or who it was by. It wasn’t until I heard what I’ve done from transformer did I start to look into them, and I’d hear songs from minutes to midnight on the radio and realized they also made other songs I loved. I just fell in love with their music and they instantly became my favorite and still are. I bought all their CDs when I heard about A Thousand Suns and preordered that too. It wasn’t until I skipped school to listen to it from start to finish did I realize why they were my favorite and how awesome they are. As long as they’re still around they be my favorite. I’ve gotten everything from them since then, downloaded some concerts I couldn’t go to preordered LIVING THING, got RECHARGED on iTunes and preordered The Hunting Party, just can’t wait for it to come out. Even if they’re not your favorite, if you don’t like LINKIN PARK at all something is wrong with you

My dad bought Meteora funnily enough. I had heard Papercut and In the End before but never actually bothered find out more on who actually performed the songs. My dad got the album because of the song Numb and after I heard it I was basically blown away. Listened to the rest of the album and became a very big fan, even more so when I got Hybrid Theory and found out they were the ones who made In the End! They were basically the heaviest albums I had heard at that time and I was addicted. Been a happy fan ever since

What a good cousin you have! haha. I only ever recall hearing Numb when I was younger, but I never really actively watched any form of music shows on tv. Interesting, I was bullied a lot in Primary School too, but I never really attached myself to music? I think it’s interesting that I never seemed to be to effected by the class. But what an awesome way to get attached to such a wonderful band.

Light That Never Comes was such an interesting song! Just sort of came out of the blue with this awesome unique sound, reminded me of New Divide. One day that light will come!

I know how you feel. Confused 10 year olds that like music but have no idea how to obtain it unite! Haha. Yeah it took me a while too. My brother was the only real source of downloading music I had. That’s awesome!

Well… it’s actually a very long and long story))[biggrin]

As of many fans, attracted me this group their debut album))) and the second album Meteora… But I first heard them back in 2007, on TV then have shown a clip What I’ve Done, I did not know yet what is this group is)) Even the name is not remembered, but really liked song and the clip too. Goose bumps are gone.
But then quickly forgotten)) Then in 2010 alone remembered and began to look for this same song…And I found) With her you’ve got it all started…

They’re lyrics had me from the very first album. I was somewhat embarrassed at first, because (at that time) it wasn’t ‘normal’ for kids of my skin tone to listen to music like LP, but soon I had stopped caring. During the times when I felt like I didn’t need to be here anymore, LP’s music kept me around. Their music is so therapeutic for me, and since joining LPU (years ago) the community’s also helped me to feel less alone. This band is amazing.

I agree with you) Music LP affects a person in some mysterious way… Personally, they changed me and my life. And get acquainted with the people I will never forget)

like most of you i got in with meteora and i can clearly remember how i got in.
i was 10yo and in my city kids were mostly rock fans and i can remember the first song i heard from LP was breaking the habit thanks to some kid who liked them already. just after that numb was getting really big on radio and meteora was the first album i bought, then it was Hybrid Theory.

I admit i bought MTM and then stopped catching up their stuff because i went into some other bands but New Divide and lately Burn it Down got me in all over and that’s how i decided to join LPU.

LP was with me during my childhood and i think they were the first band i was really fond of. I’ve learnt english with them, i translated a lot of songs from english into french and that’s how i can still remember the lyrics so clearly. same goes for the music videos that i know almost by heart.
To be honest, LP made me feel like i wasn’t alone and that i was invincible. i didn’t have much friends at school but their songs made me feel strong enough to face the world, with them, i was never alone.

I started loving LP with what I’ve doen in transformers. But that was before i started looking into then. I was actually a acdc fan until a buddy of mine played new divide for me, after that i played new divide more and more, and checking out more and more songs on YouTube until i only listened to LP

I remember the exact moment- 2000 me standing in my room, back turned to the T.V. and I heard an ad playing for hybrid theory when it 1st came out, I heard Chester’s scream and I froze, turned and I was hooked. I have been in love with them for 14ish years. Will always love them till death due us part.
