To many recording at live shows. Enjoy it in the moment

I remember my first LP live concert back in 2007. What a nice concert in Copenhagen with Leave Out All The Rest played live for the first time ever. I had my old phone with me (0,3 mega pixels camera) and recorded some videos. It was so bad quality. But after the concert I was like, "why did i recording it? So i could enjoy it afterwards, but why not enjoy it in the moment? And get so much more out of the show. So after that I do not record at live shows, so I can enjoy a full show. (I had recorded then i ended up at the stage with Volbeat).

When I just saw this video on youtube

It is up front in the pit. Super nice intro and what happens? Nothing? People just standing and recording. One or two people are jumping up and down. With that kind of a intro everyone should jump and down and go crazy. We are in the pit here.

I don’t know if it just me, but I think there are to many people recording, instead of enjoying the show/concert. Live shows are to be enjoyed live, not afterwards. Just my opinion.

I totally agree with you! I never take photos or videos at any of the concerts I attend. It’s just plain stupid to me to just sit and worry about the sound not being nice or the video quality not being good or blurry or whatever.
It’s way way way better to just enjoy it to the fullest. Besides, some of them are a once in a lifetime experience!

Proud to say me and the 3 other people at the front-left barricade were going apeshit almost the whole time.

I only snapped a few pictures during Castle of Glass and Waiting for the End. IMO, if you’re going to record or take pictures, do it during the slower songs.

Everybody has their own ways to take in shows. If taking pictures and recording videos is your thing, then great, have fun with it. If you’d rather just enjoy the show in the moment and don’t do anything else with it, awesome!

It’s your moment, your experience. Do whatever it is you want to do with it, just as long as you’re enjoying it and having fun.

I have to agree. Back in 2003, hell, even 2009, it was about something else. But in 2010 I was actually told by a fellow front-rower that if I want to jump and… do things, I should have gotten a seating ticket.

Right… But if someone want to record, can they not go to the back? Up front in the pit, you go crazy not standing still…

I have no problem with taking 4-5 pictures during the whole show to have something afterwards. I do that myself. But I never take more than 5 and I never make videos.
I don’t like it when people take thousands of pictures and even film whole songs. The standing area is there to go crazy, to move. If you want to film the show pick a good seat.

I’m very thankful for people who are recording parts of the show. Thanks guys!

I would say the same ! Front row guys are like energy drinks for the artists. If they are silent and busy in taking videos and photos then the band can not do their best. They feel bad but they can not say it !

Proud to say I’m one of those few jumping around on the right lol. Everyone got more crazy as it went on, like for With You and POA, everyone jumped.

I still recorded just a few things, so I could remember my view and show my friends my view and make them jealous XD. But yeah I agree. I mean, it’s nice for the Youtubers, but you know someone else is gonna be recording too so…

And it was still the best concert ever, but now I’m itching to go to something where everyone goes crazy and there’s some actual pit action, like what I see in Rock am Ring and stuff!

people do it because they wanna have something to look back at?
its their choice really
their lost too, they miss the awesomeness that way

I was at the SMMF and I swear, this girl next to me was posting pics on Instagram and Facebook more than actually watching the band. I didn’t see her look up or sing along once. It was crazy. I don’t understand why people do that. I usually take a couple pics of close ups of each band member, and leave it at that. Professional pics and sometimes professional videos are always uploaded on sites after the show. Lol.

Matter of choice I usually go ape shit while my wife snaps and shoots but also goes ape shit from time to time. A good balance is always good.

I’ve been to shows where people do this too & it really shocks me. I am usually at the barricade for most shows I’m at but wasn’t at SSMF because I had a meet and greet. I usually take pics during slower songs like new divide or the ballad medley. I was at 4 Honda civic tour shows and the only videos I took were duri the ballad medley the first two shows I was at.

As for SSMF, I was about 20 rows back and was very shocked and a little embarrassed to see so many people recording during epic songs like faint. Really? Or during the freaking opening APFMH… All I wanted to do was jump up and move around but I felt silly like I was the only one rocking out.

I upload pics after the show but the only reason is to share it with fans until the pro shots are released and to remember my amazing spots on the barricade & relive it. I can’t stand when people “INSTANTLY” upload…

I think my new favorite is when people record with their iPads =/

I think one thing that takes away from a live show the most is people who can automatically upload photos/videos to the internet on a whim from the show. The way I think is that you should enjoy the show as much as you can in the moment. If you feel like recording video or taking pictures, then capture as much as you wish, but save the uploading to Facebook, Instagram, what have you for when you get home. Technology that connects you to the outside world just ruins the feeling of a show for me, more than anything else.

I’ll be the first to say that I love taking pictures, and concerts are certainly no exception. Some people have different view points, and everyone’s sure shown that here, but there’s just something about a concert atmosphere that I love to capture on film. Not to say that I use my camera the entire show, but I balance it out, and always make sure to enjoy myself in the moment as much as possible.

I totally agree! If you want to watch it again afterwords there is always another guy who filmed it and put it online if there aren’t any professional cams
