I just watched it!! And it really made me happy!!
Laughed with the stories, sang and jumped with the show.
Was nice ro see then together again.
Any chance a video of the Q&A session will be posted?
The more, I think about it, the more I find it ok to charge money. It was 11 Euro for me, and as I said a fastfood place or the movie theatre would be more expensive.
Yes, other musicians did those things for free or just for donations. But I actually think, music, art, writing should be somthing, you can make a living of. And if you are real famous with what you have done, it’s ok to make money out of it.
At least way more ok, then others who make big money get it out from.
And for me, the event was totally worth it. I wanted to watch and participate at the release hour. It was exiting to be in the chat, reading of so many long time fans. Sending what’sapp to closer soldiers, being exited and partying.
The interview, yes, it I hoped, they would say something about the future.
But I was totally happy with the rest. That they where all on screen, to finally see Rob again.
And I loved to listen to their talking.
Especially at the moments, they got lost in the conversation and story telling. It felt organic.
It was about their past, about remembering. It wasn’t all about Chester, even so he played a huge part.
The moment, when Dave told us how he returned to the band. That Brad bagged him. And he wasn’t sure, had heard Chester joined and even listened to audios. But as soon as he saw Chester performing live, his decision was set.
The way they all reminiscent reminded me, that we are the same age. It is exactly what I do right now, reminiscing my life, reconnecting with people of my past.
With this, it felt real to me.
And after, the show
It was just awesome
So well remastered
I enjoyed it so much, hope it will done with some more of the old tapes.
good words - I agree with that. It was last friday but still got the last sentence/words from Mike in my ears. Just lovely.
So someone did record it. Now we have it for free lol. I still don’t intend on watching it though.
I watched it last night, good interview, really nice seeing them all again, but definitely not something I would have paid for.
To be completely honest, they’re making this a bigger deal than it should be. 20 years is a remarkable point in someone’s career for sure and it is reason to celebrate but damn, bigger bands than them don’t even try this hard. And apparently the box set was rushed therefore so many errors and mistakes are on it and people complain. I don’t blame them.
It is worth mentioning though that I am not 100% sure this is purely them (I actually kind of doubt it) or Warner pushing (and money grabbing) behind them. They’re nasty…
I thought they went independent since THP?
No, they’re with Warner. They’re just producing their albums by themselves since THP.
Do you mean the stream? On hearing it, I have changed my mind a bit. Yes, that happens. But, I feel the stream is purely in place of what would have been a HT tour/special if Chester was still here. The stream isn’t a bad thing as it provides some interaction for the band with fans. This isn’t going to possible anytime soon so makes sense. Personally, I wouldn’t charge for it or I would have asked all the money goes to charity including 320. That’s my only concern. Otherwise, Hybrid Theory is always a big deal to the fans and musical history so should be celebrated.
I don’t mean the stream (I actually thought it was pretty good, just hearing them talk about Chester and their memories always warms my heart). I mean everything. I agree it is probably something they would have done anyway, but like, other bands release special editions or box sets for their X anniversaries but they don’t make it this big of a deal. I don’t know, it just feels like it was a bit shoved into fans’ faces in a way.
Yes the stream was really sweet and I particularly like how they talked about HT being “completely authentic”. This is the best description I’ve heard about the album. Unfortunately they didn’t touch on Reanimation yet again. What an underrated album! Haha.
I didn’t really look at the box set stuff in detail. I knew it was there and I guess I don’t collect so it doesn’t matter to me. Nice to hear some unreleased songs but everything else I’ve heard so it’s just nice to remember the music now.
Hmm. Hybrid Theory isn’t just another album though. It’s one of the biggest selling albums in the world. Up there with The Beatles, Elvis and MJ. LP don’t have any other album as successful as HT and most bands (who are still active!) celebrating anniversaries won’t either. It is a big deal, for sure.
I don’t think The Beatles can be compared to LP, their class is a whole different level. Deftones for example didn’t make a big deal out of White Pony turning 20 earlier this year. HT might be considered the best debut of the century or whatever but deep down we all know there are way better albums out there and way better bands than them. We need to be realistic.
Again, I do believe Warner is behind all this, like always, and I do give them credit for offering their time to do all this for the fans but it felt like too much for me.
It’s similar to the way Papa Roach celebrated 20 years of Infest, except they did it for free.
I do agree to an extent - apart from your point on there being better bands out there… - but for me, whilst I felt the commercial drive behind this, I know that a proportion of the proceeds is for good causes and also a portion for the band too, who no doubt are not rolling in cash given their collective inactivity since Chester. I’m happy to contribute to helping the band keep going, especially if it could result in a new album.
Realistically, HT is their best album* and always will be. Why “newer” fans can’t accept this… There are some better bands, Queen would be my top given how unique/timeless they were, but LP are up there too. LP will always be my band as I grew up with their music, whereas I didn’t grow up with The Beatles etc. I guess for younger fans you never experienced LP the way we did. It’s never going to be the same for you. Chester is one of the very best vocalists of our time. “World-class”.
Deftones/Papa Roach do not have a world best selling album. They’re probably in the top 100 but not near HT. Also, I guess they’re still active whereas LP might not be in the future so they want to celebrate the anniversary more.
LP are so long in the tooth they wouldn’t do anything they didn’t want to / be forced by Warner. The music industry is about profit. It is a business after all. If you buy into the commercialisation as a fan that’s up to you. I’m just here for the music.
- Hybrid Theory has sold 27 million copies worldwide, making it the best - selling debut album since Guns N’ Roses’ Appetite for Destruction (1987) and the best - selling rock album of the 21st century.
not 100% - As a really ‘die hard’ PRoach fan since 2001 (still thankful that I saw them before corona lockdown in Germany), I’ve got a notification for a payed stream by PRoach on social media accounts → for #Infest20 - Also they did a couple of merch stuff. But they did Infest 20 in ‘under corona’ times and put the re-recorded songs on youtube. I think everyone will understand, that this way isn’t the way for Linkin Park’s situation.
I think every band should do what’s best (for them) and the fans can decide for themself.
I’ll be forever a Deftones fan and so many good albums, which I love since the late 90’s and the early 2000’s got their 20th anniversary already (for example Disturbed with 'The Sickness, PRoach with Infest) or gonna have them next year (Iowa SlipKnot, Toxicity System of a Down for example).
Don’t get me wrong: I would love to have something special for them, but speaking of these few bands, which I mentioned, they would be on world tour and/or North America tour right now. So maybe they did ‘not that special much’ because it wouldn’t been without the Corona-Situation bc they would celebrate on tour?
Just my thoughts.
I feel like sharing sm love
I don’t doubt the numbers, it is the best album of the century, I’m just saying that there is better music out there.
Now, this is something I NEVER understood about this fanbase. This constant I-am-a-better-fan-than-you attitude just because you’ve followed the band since day 1. It doesn’t f*cking matter when you became a fan, it doesn’t make you better than me or anyone else just because you “grew up with the band”. Please! I have my very own fond memories, like every other fans does, everyone experiences music differently. And yes, Linkin Park means the world to me, yes I dare to disagree with a LOT of things they do, yes I haven’t followed them from day 1, yes I consider other bands better than them (musically, live wise, etc), yes they’ve taught me a bloody lot about music, yes they are the freaking reason I STUDIED music (hell, they are the reason I’ve done so many things in my life), yes I agree Chester is one of the biggest vocalists of our time. At least I’m not afraid to admit they have flaws…
We know they did though, it’s called Minutes to Midnight.
Definitely, but there are other ways around it as well.
@HakManLP I remember being in the PRoach stteam for the celebrations, I definitely didn’t pay for it. Don’t know if they did more for it after to be honest. Maybe COVID is a factor they’ve all taken into consideration. It is no surprise anyway how much the music industry (and the arts in general) is struggling right now, it won’t go back to normal anytime soon.
If anything the number of sales is lower than the reality, especially with the box set sales now. Plus, there was a lot of illegal downloads back in the 00’s so if everyone who listened to the album actually brought it they’d be much higher.
I don’t think I’m a better fan for growing up with the band but we have undoubtedly experienced them differently. There was no music like this at the time. It was groundbreaking and amazing to be part of and experience growing up. Many “new” fans don’t understand how important this album is. Furthermore, as a teenager and young adult music really influences you and can shape your mindset for many years. Songs like OSC and BTH are great examples of this. As I’ve said before, I feel this type of music made me mentally more resilient compared to those who listened to pop love songs for example. I often pick up flaws in the band, I’ve shared these oftentimes…, but can’t find a single fault in HT. It should be celebrated and is a big fucking deal. Maybe because I’m an old fan I feel this way. But still, the album is historically incredibly significant in our lifetime, whatever aged fan you are, that’s just a fact.
