Original Hybrid Theory EP release date?

Hey,

does anyone here know for sure when the original Hybrid Theory EP came out? Most likely around the end of 1999.
Before you google away, May 1st 1999 is probably not correct! Since Chester joined the band around the end of March 1999, (not 1998 like the band tries to make us believe now lol) May was too early.

There isnt a specific date as such, the CD was printed, pressed and distributed by the band and its street team members. You couldn’t pick a copy up in a store.

But late 99 is probably accurate, remember Mike Wakefield helped make most of the songs on the CD but after leaving Chester was brought in and things got mixed up so its possible it was an early fall release.

I know. That’s what makes it so difficult to nail down the exact date, but they must have distributed them to to street team members all around the same time.

Btw. as far as I can tell Wakefield has no writing credit for the HT EP songs so he didn’t help on any of the songs. He has writing credit for some of the songs that ended up on Hybrid Theory later.

I would say, compare the versions of WBR internal cdrs and their dates.

The date is undefined, and as Curt said I don’t think they distributed all copies in one day. I would bet July since I think, they already got something before Chester joined.

Well literally not in one day but I’m sure the majority of them got out around the same time. Does anyone know if some sort of letter came with it?

Rhinestone became Forgotten on the EP and Stick n’ Move became Runaway. Wakefield had input to some of the EP and Hybrid Theory itself - know your facts before you call it a fail :wink:

Anyway, I’m pretty sure it was late 99’ because Warner picked them up (remember reading Jeff Blue forwarded them late 99 early 2000’s) so they must have put the EP out before then.

And it’s a fact that Mark Wakefield has ZERO songwriting credits on the Hybrid Theory EP. All six of those songs were composed following his departure from the band.
