What I don’t get is why so many people are assuming that they’re making pop music just for the sake of becoming mainstream or “selling out”. That’s not the case at all. If they were to make another nu-metal record like HT, THAT would be selling out, as that is their best selling record (certified Diamond with over 10 million copies sold). So I really don’t see how WBR could be involved with this decision, because yes it’s pop music and it’ll probably sell quite a lot among casual listeners, but the sales from their fans will definitely drop heavily, and it will outweigh the sales of mainstream consumers, which will impact them. But imo, I think they’ve headed this direction because it fits best with the atmosphere of the new album: very chill and mellow, and you can’t really get that feeling with nu-metal or experimental rock, or from really, anything that they’ve done before. Even MTM’s style, which was probably their softest before OML, is too heavy (pun not intended) for the type of intimacy they’re getting at here, that’s perfectly fine.
I would appreciate a final modern day nu-metal / rap / electronic album from them before they get to the point where their sound grows to the age where they don’t make hard rock, but only if they managed to strive to completely surpass HT. A good goodbye if you will, to their “original sound” and a thank you to all those that have stayed with them all these years.
I think people consider pop music inferior to linkin park music whereas they themselves like it a lot.
Pop music gets old fast… it’s kind’ve unfortunate but true.
Depends on if you’re listening to quality pop music. The genre of pop is a great genre, and some incredible music comes out of it. Marianas Trench, The 1975, Prince, The Beatles, even Green Day, all pop acts that I think are incredible. They’re all pop in some way, some more than others and some pop-rock, but they’re all pop. And they don’t get boring for me.
I have learned to connect to heavy much better now. While listening, if I relate the chord progressions to the lyrics, it sounds as if the music is trying to convey the same thought process that they are trapped in, because of which the same chords are repeated throughout. Now as I give the same focus to the lyrics and the background, it feels like the song is complete and I enjoy it a lot more.
I totally get why Linkin Park goes in so many directions all the time. Here’s why I don’t think One More Light is their way of intentionally selling out. There’s six dudes in the band that all have to be pleased with the music they’re performing. My little band of two (myself as singer and guitarist, and a drummer) gets bored just playing the same covers every gig. We literally change half of our set list for every gig. Or, for instance, I’ve been in a local singing competition two years in a row now and my friends and other locals who have seen me perform tend to request the songs I’ve sang for the competition and sometimes it just gets boring/annoying. People grow and change. It kinda makes sense that they would change so dramatically after a span of twenty-one years together! The only thing that sucks is I do wish they would have changed their sound a little more “fluidly” for lack of a better term. I feel like in this stage of the game, had they just progressed and evolved gradually, they’d probably sound a little more like Imagine Dragons or Twenty One Pilots. Those bands are kinda what I consider, like, “experimental post-nu-metal.” (Lol! I just made that up. But I think you guys get my point…)
I think Heavy is a decent song. Although I would have liked some more interesting instrumentation in it.
There are enough mellow LP songs, but they always included some interesting bits and pieces. Heavy is really lacking in that department. Some scratching of Mr. Hahn would already spice things up a bit.
You know, this is true. I guess I was meaning pop as in newer music that is played on the pop station, but I love a lot of older pop artists and their songs. They’re timeless, whereas music now doesn’t seem to be. I’m not sure what category I would be referring to exactly, I just know that the newer stuff can easily be “worn out” whereas good music wouldn’t be able to get old. It seems every time I have downloaded a new pop song I end up deleting it because after awhile it gets annoying. Maybe I got my point across? Still trying lol
The Beatles are timeless. It would be nice if music from my generation was the same.
I hope we’re gonna get a new single soon. Seems like legit info
The website that LPA linked, the video not working:

Hopefully, in two weeks we’re gonna see the video and listen to the single
Based on the trend I think the next single will be out April 18!
I’m not listening to any more music until May 19th. Although that day is gonna be cool because another one of my favorites, blink-182, are releasing the deluxe edition of their album California, with 11 new tracks. Tbh, it’s sad that there’s more bonus tracks on that album than there are standard tracks on the new Linkin Park album.
I mean, Linkin Park could’ve put more of their “almost-made-the-album” demos on the album. That’s what Blink does, because plenty of songs on California suck ass.
I don’t get it, I loved California. The only songs I didn’t really like were Bored To Death and She’s Out Of Her Mind, and even those I still groove with. Why don’t you like it? The production, the na na na’s, the absence of Tom, a mix of all, or some other reason?
I am (im)patiently waiting for Papa Roach, Linkin Park and Stone Sour. Especially Stone Sour this month.
Blink has a certain unrefined sound with a lot of their songs that I just never resonated with. But yeah, whiny ass Tom is gone and I’m happy about that.
I also thought Tom leaving was a good thing, because y is voice was not good, although it was serviceable most of the time. I think we should continue this conversation in another topic though
