"One More Light" Mega-Topic, Out Now!

Some people saying this is going to be a full band show. As it was not mentioned as chester and mike only performance and joe said on instagram he is heading over to germany. but then again this is a acoustic performance so how can the full band perform?

It doesn’t say “full band”. The band is just playing Heavy on those awards in Germany later this week, that’s why everyone else is flying in today and tomorrow.

EDIT: Mike was just live on Facebook, he said they’re making a video for a new song that’s gonna be a bit funny, not very serious. Sounds interesting!

I’m still standing by the idea tar either Battle Symphony or the next song are not singles. The next song might be the last to be released before the album drops, but Wretches & Kings, Lies Greed Misery, and Rebellion all were released before their albums and weren’t singles

Really interesing and agree with him. There’s a huge difference between make a record that sounds “pop” at the end and plan to make it straight pop labeled since beginning.

OML makes me look back and question the band’s originality and genuineness. If they’re changing their sound to pop just to fit in today’s mainstream market, then they likely did the same thing back in 2000 when nu-metal was still relevant. Now I wonder if I can support the band at all.

I highly doubt they are doing this to fit in with today’s music, and to say that was the reason Hybrid Theory came to be is kind of nonsense. Of course there was “nu-metal” before them, but they’ve been making music since 1996, and I would argue they did it more successfully than anyone else at the time

Linkin Park is on Warner Brothers Records. The label Avenged Sevenfold just breached their contract with because they couldn’t stand the direction the label forced their albums to go. It takes a lot to push people to the point where they’re willing to settle their differences in court over music. You don’t think Warner had any influence on this album? Didn’t Warner try to kick Mike Shinoda during the writing of Hybrid Theory?

If you have to doubt the intent of the band then that shows you don’t trust them, and if you don’t trust them then you should reconsider supporting them. But look at pop punk in the mid 2000’s, tons of bands formed in that genre during that era, not all of them were in it for the money. Just because you get popular for making a certain genre of music while it’s popular it doesn’t mean you’re a sellout.

They tried to kick out Mike, as well as basically make them a boy band. They tried to make Joe wear a lab coat and there was something along the line of making Cheater throw his shoe into the crowd every show, but doesn’t that just prove that they don’t go along with what Warner Bros. wants of them? And if that is the reason behind the new album, why blame the band and not Warner Bros?

I’m pretty sure they are in a place now (well, have been for more than 10 years now) where they can say f*ck you to the label and do whatever they want. If that wasn’t the case, we wouldn’t have MTM or ATS.

It’s a route they chose to take because that’s what they want to write right now. We would be stuck with HT 2.0, 3.0 etc if that wasn’t the case.

I may not like the new stuff but when it comes to defending them about their musical risks, I’ll always be here to say how proud I am of them for following their hearts and not doing what’s expected of them.

Yeah, I mean I agree with you guys. I still love all of their music and I’m not quite ready to put down the entire album. The Hunting Party was all rock without much pop/electronic, where this seems to flip. It’s just a little frustrating when you’re not too stoked on what your favorite band is putting out, while a band like Incubus is putting out arguably their best music yet on their new album, using the same template that made them popular. I listen to a wide variety of music and I’m open to change. My last concert was Zedd (electronic) and I have tickets to Deftones & Rise Against. I liked the LP + Steve Aoki collab. I just hope the album gets more exciting than the current two songs.

Like I’ve said before, this isn’t a sell out move. Linkin Park is a rock band. For them to sell put would be for them to make rock music, boring, formulaic, uninteresting, and unoriginal rock music. Them making pop music is not a sell out, it’s them taking a risk. They just aren’t the greatest at pop music, and it leaves us with songs like Heavy and Battle Symphony that some like and others hate.

Speaking of the songs, I’m becoming less fond of Heavy. Battle Symphony I still like, but even the end of Heavy which used to be my favorite part is getting boring, and I’ve barely been listening to Linkin Parkateky so it isn’t me overplaying it. I think its just a stale song that I am starting to see as stale now. Maybe it’s just the hype died down and that was fueling my enjoyment? I don’t know, but I like it a lot less.
