New Song opinions

I don’t think GATS sounds like Linkin Park is going back to their “roots” no matter how much people wish they would, GATS is nowhere close to the rock/rap, mike/chester days of HT and Meteora. I understand the excitement for the drums and guitar for sure, especially for those who felt LP was turning too electronic in the last two albums.

That being said however, GATS, to me sounds like it would fit better on a LPU CD, and not on the Linkin Park caliber of a brand new album.

It’s good though, I love LP, I think they can do no wrong, GATS is great. I also felt the same way about some of the songs on MTM, and MTM still remains my favorite album, so of course I’m not even an ounce worried, no one should be, LINKIN PARK is too damn good to worry.

I loved the song except for 2 things :

  • Too long intro (we could cut easily the first minute that doesn’t seem to fit the song at all)
  • The rap part is awful ! Mike should have done this part. It doesn’t sound LP at all in this part.

For the rest, I like it but I admit that this song is very different from Living Things. It doesn’t feel like it’s the same band at all in…but different is not bad :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t think so. GATS indeed sounds way more heavier than the last two records. So kinda back to the roots. But it doesn’t really sounds like Hybrid Theory. Except the Rap part, I would say GATS is clearly a Metal song. And with that genre LP is trying (again) something new. Chester spoke about Death Metal a few month ago.
If you watch the latest LP interviews, you’ll see that LP have a lot of fun with GATS. Of course they love it to please their fans. But I’m sure that wasn’t the reason to write this song. I’m sure the album wont sound like HT.

It’s got a bit of old Linkin Park in the intro, a bit heavy and then it has a bit of a softer sound later on. I like it!!

Totally agree!!

I think it’s awesome…it reminds me a bit of old-school Metallica with the fast-paced drums and crazy guitar parts. Very excited to hear what else they have in store for us.

The song is amazing indeed!!!

Tho i am wondering who’s gonna rap Rakim’s part live ?? I mean they can’t drag Rakim all over with them, right? )

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that 95% of the people saying Mike should have done the rapping on this song have probably never heard of Rakim before.

Seconding.
Also its nearly a certainty Mike will be the one to do it live so there ain’t much here to complain about.

I’m also going out to say that I like Rakim and the bridge much more than the rest of the song. It has the best tension. The final part of the song after that can’t top it.

Also like the first 5 seconds don’t add anything. I would just had a few guitar notes without drums and then ramp up to guitar chords and drums instead of low quality sounding stuff.

Otherwise I like the song. Having a proper six minute LP song is great. They accomplish this without being boring. The way the song progresses is interesting and fun. Pretty cool. I know I’ll be jamming this for a while.

I like it! It´s spinning around in my head the whole time… always the same with LP!

What’s up everyone? I’m new to the LPU and this will be my first forum post/reply. I saw this topic and had to add my two cents. My feelings about the new song mirror some of the stuff already brought up in this thread, but as we are all people with different opinions, tastes, etc. I’d like to give my thoughts.

First off, I like the song. It’s got good energy, the music is cool, the drums and guitars sound like drums and guitars, it’s longer than most LP songs, the tempo and musical changes are cool, and Rakim is on it. As mentioned before, I was surprised to see a feature on the song. LP has never had someone featured on a song on a studio release, but are we 100% sure this song will be on the new record though? Whether it’s on the new album or not, it’s really cool that LP got Rakim on a song. I’m a big Hip Hop fan, and anybody who appreciates Hip Hop can appreciate Rakim. Would I have liked to hear Mike on the track? Of course. But if you’re going to have anyone rap on a song you can’t go wrong with Rakim.

As I said above it’s refreshing to hear real instruments again. Not to get off subject, but Living Things was way too digital/electronic for me. The energy was there and the composition of most of it was cool, but sometimes it lacked the grit or raw feel of past LP stuff. On this song the drums are fast and loud. The guitars are almost perfect. I say almost 'cos the lead part before Chester starts singing is a bit weak in my opinion. I love the keyboard and synth elements, and I love how balanced they are in the beginning but then how they take over during Rakim’s verse. I love that transition. The change from the straight up Rock to the hard-hitting Hip Hop part with subtle guitars is clean. Someone earlier mentioned those instrumentals during that part being their favorite part of the song and I’d have to agree. I love the sounds used.

I like how the song is a bit longer than we’re used to from LP, but it’s a blessing and a curse. I like the changes that occur musically. The song is a roller-coaster energy-wise. But, I feel like the chorus gets a bit repetitive and the lyrics, although portraying how a lot of people can feel about certain things going on in the world, are kind of bland. I think Mike and Chester’s writing strength comes out when speaking on personal topics, but when they approach the socio-political stuff they’re more straight forward. I’m not saying the lyrics aren’t good, but they could be stronger. With all of that being said, the lyrics and vocals are raw and relatable and will definitely inspire some sing-a-longs.

Lastly, I see what people mean about the song sounding “demo-ish”, but I feel like it just adds to the raw feeling of the song. It’s less polished and refined, and that gives the song a more real vibe. It’s tough, it’s street, it’s kind of ugly, but it shows the true colors of the song and its meaning.

All in all, I’m digging the new song and I hope the album has more stuff like it. I hope it’s the only song with a feature though. I enjoy the idea of “outsiders” being on LP songs, but they should keep the list small and exclusive. LP, in my opinion, sounds best when they balance all the elements of their sound. I know the guys don’t aim to have a “sound”, but they’re kind of like Bruce Lee : “the style of no style”, “form without form”, “be like water”, etc. MTM didn’t have enough electronic elements (or enough Mike and Joe). LT had too much electronic elements. “Guilty All The Same”, to me has the strong blend that forms the foundation of earlier LP albums, but with the lyrical content and structural ideas of later offerings. They know what they’re doing.

Sorry for this really long post. I guess I wanted to make my first one count! haha… Take care everyone.

I’m surprised it took this long for “Metallica” to be mentioned. The start reminds me a little of Garage Inc. era recordings, which is probably why people say it has a demo recording sound.

I don’t have any issues with the rap. The rest of the sound was different from recent recordings enough to where it simply did not bother me. We all love Mike, but hearing some collaborative stuff shouldn’t be a shock to anyone given it’s right off the back of Recharged, and we’re all familiar with Reanimation…so playing well with others is definitely nothing new.

However, it took 3 listens on 3 different days for it to start catching. Linkin Park to me, is like going to a musical hook-fest. I don’t feel it on this song, but I seriously don’t care either. It just needed a chance to ferment with me, and it’s working. Now I can’t wait to find out what is on either side of this track and see how the album flows.

Pretty dang awesome. This to me is the perfect sound. Has that raw energy and ripped my face off on first listen. A lot of people I know who don’t like LP or don’t care anymore were blown away by it when I had it playing, Awesome stuff!

[quote=EvoOba]Sorry everyone but The song sounds so so so so bad to me. It reminds me of the Pirates of The Caribbean soundtrack with a little extra distortion. Chester sounds horrible too, it’s like he’s struggling so much to sing. Horrible, just horrible. I hope the rest of the album will be much better

It’s funny that you say this cause when I played it for a friend they referenced the fact that they thought it sounded like the Pirate soundtrack as well!!!

Totally agree!!

I’m with you guys!!!

I didn’t like Rakim being on the song. Mike would’ve done a better job.
Other than that, it’s one of my favorites now.

Well much that I can say about of a new song)

She undoubtedly is heavy, and it is very surprising. Guitars, drums moved to the front. Rakim rap but this is probably the most that I liked in this song, the bridge in front Rakim.
