Depends of each author. In my case it has taken 5 years and I havenāt ended yet, and thatās because I donāt need to rush to end it, I love all my stories, histories and poems because they are product of a good, bad, sad, happy moment. And the day my book see the light I will so [spoiler] fucking[/spoiler] happy.
