Well you might get an annoyed cashier, but that’s about it. Obviously, have 10 quid ready when they reject it so that you can actually pay for the stuff.

we’d all be twice as rich if we could do that, it actually has to be 3/4 of the bill for a bank to accept it and give you a new one as far as I know
I’ve had the bastards take a fake $50 and not give me any money for it because it’s part of a crime 
this being before the new blue bills…there was a while where no businesses were taking any big bills at all because of a counterfeit problem

That’s provided that both halves retain their value i.e. both halves of the 20 would still be worth 20 thus you have 40. Otherwise it makes no difference. Mind you, can you imagine if it worked like that and you had people splitting £50 notes into 1mm strips and then giving it to cashiers and insisting it was a 50.
