Ideas for the next chat with mr.lp

Hello Everyone,

The chat with Chester was really cool. BUT, we have to do something about that flood craziness that was going on. I believe there should be a systematic way to handle this problem.

  • I think that the Band and LPU VIP’s, should start picking a few random names from the chat room attendee list. That way, we all have a fair chance to have our questions, comments, and requests replied to. If you don’t get picked, don’t be a baby about it. It’s not worth it. We all have the same odds of being picked. Better luck next time.

  • (Despite what I say, this problem won’t clear up anytime soon ) Please stop flooding the chat! I found it almost blinding to look at the chat earlier, and I pretty sure our Special Guests probably feel the same way. It’s very overwhelming. At one point during the chat I estimated a little less than 200 questions, comments, and requests being posted per second. Honestly, who wouldn’t be overwhelmed?

  • We should be for the most part quiet when whosoever is speaking. It’s just the respectful thing to do. I think the only time the chat should be flooded is when greetings and farewells take place at the beginning and end of the chat.

This is a quick, easy, logical, and fair solution.
Love, Rose

I totally angree with you! Everything you say is totally true! I hope they will do something about it. I didn’t even have time to read any questions. It was kinda annoying.

Excuse me? http://www.lpunderground.com/forum/help_site_feedback/2177412

  1. I guess they wont do that. And I’d be angry if that happens. Why? cause I paid for this. And I am not a spammer. I ask my questions, wait for them to be answered. And I don’t spam things like: come to my country etc.
It would be unfair for the people who are there to ask real questions.

  2. Good Idea, but that would take too much time.

  3. Well some Fans… I just call them spammers… wont work on themselves. They don’t read the rules and it seems that they don’t care about the rules.

What am I supposed to be excusing you for? Because I didn’t post this in site feedback? Does it really matter where I post it? It’s still going to be read. Not trying to be rude or anything, we’ll all have similar Ideas, and I can honestly appreciate that. The one I stated is just as good as anyone else’s, it’s not meant to supersede other Soldier’s Idea’s. It just seemed like the fastest and most logical way of handling this issue.

I remember old chats back in the day, they were really good (just a text chat in example) with alphabet “queue”. People spamming are not spammers, they are morons (or just little stupid kids)

And what Derek said:
“TinyChat is the best that we have found to work on the platform that we have, so we are stuck with it, even in LPU12.”
I have just one thing to say: HAHAHA…There are so many options, some of us would suggest getting back to the old chat systems but it looks like it’s too much for ground(ctrl) people to handle. So for another year we will have broken chat where you can’t get in (whaaaaaat? I frickin’ paid for that remember?), get banned for no reason or just have the message box “turned off” + extra ultimate spam flood in the chat window. Not to mention awesome 320p quality video. What century we live in again? Great job LPU.

yep, you’re right

But there’s no banning without a reason.
You get banned if you’re using caps, which most of the people did in there. Well they always do

I’m on the LPU for loooooong time now and I know that almost nothing changed if it’s about chat bans…Mods should execute rules violations with a permanent ban (til the account expires). That way in some time people will learn their lesson and hopefully we can have a proper chat with no spam. Another cool thing would be something like ONE question per person. And that way we can get interesting questions not lemon or bacon ones…but that’s only my opionion/idea.

Agreed!

As far as your suggestions go.

  1. With the TinyChat platform the way it is, we would have to have 100% cooperation with everyone in chat to follow us on picking people and not spamming their own question. Which will not happen because in general, people are selfish and don’t care about anyone but themselves.

  2. Flooding chat relates to member selfishness. Only way flooding will stop is if TinyChat platform changes and we get a Pause Chat option.

  3. More of the same.

I am sorry the chat’s during band visits are chaotic but that’s just the way they are going to be for now.

I was thinking about that issue after the chat but could not post my oppinion bc of that login issue…

Why doesn’t LPU use IRC? The ways to moderate are incredible, anything I read about how the chat being stopped as soon as a VIP joins and how users were picked to state a question that was reviewed by mods and then got posted. The simplest way to establish that would be to use IRC

With IRC you can easily limit access to a chosen group of people, you just connect the user data base of LPU to the access-routine of the IRC server.

Moderating users would be easier, lifetime bans, bans for a specific amount of time without taking care of releasing the ban

You would be able to use your chosen chat client or use a web interface.

IRC is stable, if you run your own server, 900+ people would be no problem.

People would not be able to give away there accounts so that someone that is not a member joins the chat, since you can only log on once with any account. I saw in the last chat w/ Chester that there were a user, user1 and user2 are posting simultaneously…so there were 3 active accounts not one with two ghost bc of a disconnect. So if you consider 30 people gave their account to 2 other people (even nickchange is doable between joins right now) almost 100 people may not be eligable to be in the chat in the first place.

You could, if enabled, establish different chatrooms for different topcis, querying people as you like without creating/signing in to a profile on another website (in this case now: TinyChat) would be no problem

If someone finds a way to connect a video broadcast to this, anything would be just perfect

I got something to say about that (because I did it, sorry U_U).

It’s difficult not to “spam” your question because if you don’t post it more than once, then, the LP member can’t see it. Why? Because there’s other too much people posting not only their questions but things like “come to my country!” or “say something about lemmons” (and I’m not lying).

The chat was very very fast. Even Chester can’t read all the questions because that was so fast that if you post your question, a second after, it was already lost.

Is there any possibility to go back with the “alphabetic” order of questions in this Tiny Chat?

Sounds like a great idea…

My thoughts about that: First, the rules for band member chats need to be clear for all LPU members. Because if you go to the chat, you just get more general chat rules. But that ones aren’t as specific as for chat with band members. Instead there is a thread about it: Link. But we can’t expect, that everyone know about this thread somewhere in the forum. Such instructions has to be visible, just before we enter the chatroom. It lacks a clear indication of what is allowed and what is not. In this context, it has to be announced clearly, that we can be banned immediately if we violate the rules.

The next step is of course, to enforce the rules. It would help, if more mods were present. If they consequently ban the spammers, it will certainly have an impact. When I look at the last chat with Chester, it seemed that only a few spammers get banned while many of them just pronounce their bullshit over and over again. Mods need to be a “chat police”. I’m sure, that we could find some reliable LPUer, who could assist the regular staff.

Those rules are exactly what they say first, unofficial. Those will stay that way. We could make separate rules for Band chats I suppose. It’s something to look into.

Second, more mods will be at band chats from now on. That’s something I am bringing up.
