How is the treatment for Trial Members on LPU Chat

I am Brazilian and I speak English too, and I just speaking in English on the LPU chat, but there was some guys from a country of South America too just joking around and refusing to speak in English, according to the rules of LPU Chat, right? So, the moderator didn’t do anything about that, and I was trying to start a conversation with people who was there and I didn’t get it.
First, because people weren’t giving me any attention. Second, everybody was just thinkin about reclaim about those guys speaking Spanish, and third, people who moderate are just saying bad things to us, like “oh for the god’s sake, trial members has only 5 hours and they’re going to leave”, or “they just needed to make another chat to them”, and I feel unconfortable because I am trial member, and I feel disrespected by them.
If the idea was bring new fans to LPU, I think the treatment of the moderators or fans it’s not proper with me. Because of this, I don’t know if I am joining LPU anymore. I am from Brazil and we are not like this. We respect each other… Its just another culture, so I am not accustomed with this.

Tell me about this on my Twitter if you want (@Dani_Sh) and pass the information foward. Thanks.

I know how you feel about not being able to talk to people, but there weren’t any moderators there at the time. If there were, they’d be gone in seconds. Moderators have stars by their names on the side of chat. There’s only around 3 mods that come to chat, and not very often

Totalmente de acordo! Também sou um membro trial e senti que há um preconceito conosco. Entro nesse chat mas não falo com ninguém, a não ser que falem comigo. Chega a ser ridículo! >.<

We tried to explain it but they do not want to hear our explanation, is one of the MAIN RULES of the chat, ENGLISH ONLY! You says that they just joking around, well is not funny at all and its annoying. How we can have a good chat if they spam the chat and using caps lock? Trust me if there were Mod there, they will get ban.

Is not about respect the culture or discriminating other country, its just basic rules of the chat, we (regulars members on chatroom) always remind all new LPUers about the rules and stuff, and we are explain it in really polite words. But they refuse to listen. I understand they cant speak English very good, guess what? I sucks too, English is not my main language but I try to learn it.

So sorry if you felt left out :frowning:

Well said. Sorry you feel this way, hopefully you change your mind and decide to join and can see this place really is a great community and a lot of fun can be had here.

Ok hai there. first things first. I’m new to LPU, I’m not a trial member.

When I first joined the chat, it wasn’t crowded or anything. People where talking about this and that and the messages popped in and I felt ignored.
There are a couple of reasons for that:

The tiny chat window and the number of character restriction
If someone is on cam you only see 10 lines of chat. Following a conversation is a hard thing to do. People are forced to send short messages so the number of messages increases. People use chat jargon, if you’re not used to it it makes it even harder to understand anything
(If you can enlarge the chat window, please tell me how)
If you start scrolling back up you miss new messages and the whole thing starts to become a vicious circle.

LPU Insider
“Poopies” for one sounds mean! You see someone call somebody else poopie and don’t understand it. I know now that this is not mean at all. You should not forget that new people can’t know that so cut some slack.

The bond between a long-established community
Some people know each other - for long, maybe even in person. That’s ok!
Everyone knows everybody’s real name. It’s hard to keep track of that and to get the hang of it.
I really didn’t know and I still don’t know if it’s ok to call anybody by their real name if he/she uses a nickname in chat and a real name is nowhere to be found on their profile.
I just do it and see how it works.

Idling on cam
It was new to me to join a webcam-chat where someone who is on cam is not even lurking but really idling. So if I saw someone on cam I adressed him/her and got back … nothing. So for a couple of hours it was annoying. Sentences like “ok newbies let me tell you about people on cam” sound condescending.

So these are just some reasons why someone could feel unwelcome. But please don’t be. I know I would act the same. Just stay for a while, you will get what’s going on by the time. (I don’t mean weeks but days, took me 3 days)

It’s just the way it works joining a new community. You join and feel overwhelmed by everything but if you stick around long enough you get the hang of it. I for my part have found some very amusing conversations in chat. The chat introduced me to a couple of people I like talking to - number increasing on a daily basis.

For those of you who belong to the old-established circle
If someone new annoys you, SAY IT! But don’t be mean, choose your words wisely. If the chat is not enough write a massage. Explain, what’s the problem. That is what the community is for.
How will someone new know that he/she is annoying if you don’t tell him/her but ignore him/her entirely.
Don’t even think about being subtle, ironic or sarcastic. Chances are high the new member is not a native English speaker and does not get it even remotely.

For the Babies
The chat rules are there. They are there for a reason. Obey the rules!. Or you don’t need to wonder about mean behaviour or even a ban from chat.
Stop popping “ASL”-question to every girl that reveals herself.
If you find it hard to follow, keep calm, if someone says something, you want to know more about, start a private chat. (NO ASL!)
If you want to talk in your native language with another user (who speaks your language too), open a private conversation or share facebook accounts.
The last two of course only apply if consensual

just my 2ct

edith: I just realised that you need a Tiny Chat account to start private conversations…so write a message to the user via LPU site

Plain and simple, failure to abide by the rules doesn’t go well with many of us, that’s always really the main problem with new members.

In the chat window there’s a message at the top of the page pointing to the rules that are at the bottom of the page. I feel like those should be moved to the top of the page, that way they won’t go ignored, or at the very least, unnoticed.

And in regards to private messaging. TinyChat and LPU accounts are in no way connected, so even if you were to “log in with a TinyChat account,” it still doesn’t enable it.

Actually, it does enable it if you log in. You have to reload the chat for it to work, though

Here’s what I think.

When I was new, I felt ignored too but you know what? Try to talk to those people and you’ll get attention.

And if someone is on cam and idling, just leave him and concentrate on the others who are there to chat.

You are Newbies, and we are calling you that, cause you are. It’s not meant in a bad wa. It’s just the truth.

Most of us aren’t bad people, no we are the complete opposite. Maybe you should try to give us a chance, like we give new members a chance, too.

I guess there were two problems crashing into each other…

trial members not obeying by the rules
feeling overwhelmed by all that’s going on

Daniele could relate to those two “idiots” (they were trial members, she was too), and someone banned them. That together with her feeling of being unwelcome and ignored did the rest.

She understands that nobody in the chat made her actively feel that way on purpose. And she just wanted to share her story so maybe everyone could check their behaviour.

Daniele is not mad and may come back after all…

@prici: That’s what I said :wink:

danish… no offence but you came into the chat a few mins ago
i was nice, said hi and you didn’t reply

you can’t expect us to be nice, when you’re not talking to us.

that’s what I meant. Talk to us, and we talk to you to. you can’t expect something from nothing.

Hi! Newbies isn’t the same as poppies and that 2nd word was used with those trial members.
I don’t even know what you’re meaning with “poppies”, too.

And I think LP13413 said two facts: The rules may be ignored because of its position and TinyChat unconnected with LPU accounts. There would be the possibility to create a TinyChat account with another name, don’t you think? I don’t know if this would help in the case someone is trolling in the chat.

It’s just a general name some people on LPU call everyone, it’s not one specific type of person being called this because of something they do. But, it’s not poppies, it’s poopies.

I also don’t get what you’re saying about what Andy said and how it has to do with Tinychat. Tinychat and LPU not being connected only affects private messaging, and if you create an account on Tinychat, that username doesn’t affect LPU in any way

that is literally not possible because you set your screenname in the LPU-chat (GCLPU) via http://lpunderground.com/account/avatar (“Display Name”). This information is inherited to your TinyChat profile-information when you join GCLPU.

Since you can only (and only this way) enter GCLPU as a logged on member of LPUnderground.com there is no chance for anyone to join as anything else than set for “Display Name”

To borrow from the game terminology, there is important difference between newb and noob. Sadly, many people fit into the latter category.

PS:
Und jezt wir werden alle Deutsch sprechen. Deutschland is wichtiger als Brasilien, oder?

No, problem  I’m new right here and I didn’t knew about this rule… So I said that I’m trial too and I can’t even access the chat room page (and last night I missed Chat with Chaz) :(, and I think that if the give an access to us through trial, would be the same access to everybody, or even give a trial access, cause these types of “restrictions”, (like contest, chat as I said, videos… ) make we feel uncomfortable and kind of constrained.
