So what’s the issue then?

Hmm, just digging through my phone, I feel like there used to be a setting that isn’t there anymore. Maybe it was on my old phone. Search ‘mobile data’ in your settings and look under developer options, make sure you’ve disabled ‘keep mobile data turned on’.

image

Other than that, if you haven’t switched it on manually and left it on, I don’t see why your data would be used up. The only thing I can think of is specific app permissions.

By the pic you posted, that Samsung internet thing seems to be easting all of it. No idea what it is, I’ve never seen it on my phone. Looks like bloatware to me, you might as well delete it unless you use it. Or check what permissions you’ve given in and what settings it has in it’s own menus.

That’s the thing with Andriod, it’s very versatile, and not everything is in one place. Apps often have their own settings menus.

Hm.
Don’t find it that way it is with yours.
I have the mobile data on, of cause.
But all the if wlan connection is slow, switch is off.
You think, I just do a stop on this samsung internet thing?
That I can do.

Well if you don’t use it, yeah. Also keep your mobile data switched off when you’re not doing anything. Keeping it on eats at your data because apps work in the background.

But then WhatsApp isn’t working. And I like to get massages sap

A side effect, tell people to send you proper messages or to call you if it’s urgent. Everyone knows to do it with me. Besides, I never use WA for anything urgent.

That’s not the case with us :joy::joy::sweat_smile:

So, apparently some kind of ‘road map’ for Dell’s operations was leaked not too long ago. I only just heard about it. It details several projects including some kind of dual screen laptop as well as a 17" XPS and yet another XPS 15 revision early next year. No idea how legit this is, but if it’s true, I’m waiting for that XPS 17 to come out. 17" laptops are a total rarity these days and I miss having a big screen. However, according to the map, they’re all in the concept stage.

Original article:

In other news, Dell have shot themselves in the foot by making the current Inspiron 15 7000. It comes with exactly the same specs as the XPS (except for the i9 and 4K screen), except it comes with one extra M.2 drive slot and is A LOT cheaper. If you don’t want a touchscreen or an i9, why would you buy an XPS?

An XPS 15 with an i7 9750H, GTX 1650, 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM, 1080p screen and 56WH battery costs £1479. An Insprion 15 7591 with the same specs (except it has a bigger SSD of 512GB) and an optional £10 fingerprint reader costs £989.

Why on earth would anyone buy a lower-than-i9 XPS? :joy:

More to the point, i9 XPSs are infamous at this point for thermal issues, so unless you’re willing to tinker with it (which most people aren’t, for obvious reasons), why would you buy an XPS at all? The price hike is not worth it at all for a 4K screen.

See, I don’t just bash that which I hate. Perks of not being a fanboy. :joy:

How goes the SSD hunt, @rickvanmeijel?

Gave up on it lol. Since my laptop is aging now as well, I’d rather buy an enitrely new one with SSD when the time comes, instead of doing all that risky work right now.

Not a fan of the XPS,s I’m in honest, there are pretty notorious for having issues like your mentioning :+1:

Which is silly for what they are charging you for one :+1:

The XPS only makes sense for a very specific market. I have zero complaints from my current one with an i5 (not counting all the misery W10 has caused me). Though I don’t think there’s anything still fully like the XPS (short of maybe the Razer Blade which has shocking reliability and customer support).

The Macs try and fail, Lenovo actually have a few decent offerings, but their pricing is even higher. All the Taiwanese garbage like Acer, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI and whatnot are way too vulgar for their gaming rigs and their non-gaming ones are just shite. HP have fallen off a cliff in the past decade, I don’t even know if Sony are still around with the Vaio, I’ve heard Samsung used to make decent laptops back in the day.

Besides those, what’s left? business-grade Dells (not just the XPS), Lenovos and that’s about it really. If Dell didn’t exist as a company, I’d make a beeline straight for Lenovo, despite the fact that they’ve dropped the ball over the past decade as well. There’s nothing truly good these days.

The XPS tries to be everything at the same time. It kind of pulls it off, at the expense of its current issues.

So, W10 just gave me a nasty kick in the teeth…again. I kind of had it coming, it was all going way too well for way too long, something had to happen eventually.

Two days ago I was doing a routine ADWcleaner sweep, it found more of Dell’s bloatware that had somehow found its way back on to my laptop. It wanted to restart to complete the purge, so I let it. The restart was essentially a dam bursting. It let in all the W10 updates I’ve been holding back, all at once. This really caught me off guard as I had restarted a couple of days ago and nothing of the sort happened.

Anyway, at first things were fine, but then I got a BSOD an hour after the update, then all kinds of Chrome tabs started crashing a lot (not just the forums) and then I got another BSOD today. On top of all that. My fingerprint sensor got bricked, AGAIN! It’s currently semi-bricked in that it only stores one print. All my previous prints were wiped. The Windows Hello Face, Fingerprint and PIN settings are all greyed out.

At this point I thought, fuck it, I’ll do a system restore. I had made one a couple of days prior to the update and ADWcleaner actually made me a restore point before it did the bloatware purge. Well, guess what? Restore points are fucking useless, isn’t that wonderful?

“But, Rob, why are they useless?”

I’ll tell you why. I did a bit of digging (obviously) and apparently updates automatically wipe restore points. So your main defence against shite updates is wiped by updates…GG you mongoloids…GG. My next course of action was to do a Windows roll back. NOPE! Can’t have that either it seems. According to W10 I updated over 10 days ago. But ADWcleaner doesn’t lie, I updated 2 days ago.

So now I’m semi-fucked, I haven’t got a restore point to go back to, I can’t roll back the updates and fiddling with the fingerprint scanner drivers does nothing. The only possible solution is to find one of those sites that archives all the versions and builds of W10, but it’s not recommended as you don’t know who’s posting them and what’s been done to them.

It’s just amazing what happens to you!:exploding_head:
If this would happen to me that much, or even once :grimacing:, I would probably still write letters by hand.

Sorry. But LMAO!
You so sound like my first boyfriend :joy::joy::rofl:

Not even close, just another day in the life.

How do I simulate things by hand? :joy:

Why?

All this computer stuff isn’t really necessary in my life :woman_shrugging:
Without it, why should I simulate something?
And don’t get me wrong, I like it, like using it. But with your trouble, I probably wouldn’t manage.

Why the hack should I know! :exploding_head::joy:

That’s what I’m saying, you can get away without one. I can’t, I need one.

Perhaps I should have asked how, not why. So, how? :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s not a matter of pessimism. It’s experience. If I was still surprised by issues at this point and didn’t expect them to come up I’d be an even bigger retard than I already am. You can go back over my posts in this thread and the gears thread and see just how badly and for how long W10 has been tormenting me.
