They are indeed 2 separate movies. However they happen pretty much one right after the other so you’ll need to watch infinity war first in order to fully understand and appreciate endgame

Just as the rest of the saga. just Iron Man 3 not, that was crap lol
All the avengers movies are like that in fact. Happening sequentially and overlapping in the timeline. Pretty cool to follow them all but no necessary. I pretty much just saw the avengers movies, iron man movies, and some of the captain America and guardians movies and still was able to understand most of it.
