That may be because you may know German. As it is a foreign language to me (just like Dutch is to both of us), the joke stands good.
We have an age old proverb which roughly translated means “An illiterate person equates black letters with black buffalos”. We are just proving that.

I find it funny,
even so it sounds nothing like German,
Germany has no intention of being the dominating language, we all speak English.
The French and Spanish on the other hand…

They once tried to dominate something else, it didnt end well.
Muhahahhaha.
A similar type of joke would circulate in the early days which simply intended to show how english language has things which are phonetically different and how standardizing them would impact our basic understanding of the language like the one mentioned as ‘s’ and ‘c’. This joke is more appropriate to our times.
Maybe I should stick to picture jokes. Atleast I do not have to type this much. 
OT: Do we have anyone from Belgium here? I have an “offending” one for them.
Once we start clapping we never stop. Only the gap between the subsequent clap increases.
