More tales from engineering. In uni you can always tell who are the competent ones on your course, the ones that are actually interested in engineering and are there because they want to be, not for the bragging rights or other such reasons.
You can tell, because we’re usually the ones that speak in part codes, sometimes correct lecturers, join clubs and societies. If you happen to catch a glimpse of our desks, they are all covered in tools, half finished food and multiple screens. We also always have our bags full of things other than notebooks and stationery.
Case in point, a friend was telling me once that he was meeting a friend of his for lunch at the Millennium Dome and his bag was full of tools and equipment as usual. What he forgot was that there was a security check at the entrance. He had to explain to the security guard why he had a microwave-oven transformer, various blades, drill bits, screw drivers and other tools in his bag 
. I don’t think they confiscated any of them though.
What people don’t realise is that a lot of engineering students are usually casually armed to the teeth with all manner of things, you just don’t notice. I’ve had my bag full of blades, explosives, cheamicals, drill bits, an actual drill and all kinds of other things too on public peasant transport at one point or another .
It’s kind of annoying sometimes though, like when we were in London for an event with the society, we wanted to go to the Science museum after, but realised we couldn’t because we all had a bag full of tools. They’d probably call the SAS on us if we tried to get in.
