I got charged cause of customs too…
For me, 15.15€ by the Italian Post Office/Customs.

This is the law and government must have a source (funds) for the state budget. Each state has a certain maximum price that you can import in your country, above that you have to paid tax and specific duties. Example: Every package which comes in Croatia, which has a value (item + shipping) more than $28 must be cleared (from custom). When I bought a LPU11 Package, I had to pay $23 of taxes and import duties ($60*23% tax + 16% import duties). For almost every package I have to pay tax to my government. The EU law has also this regulations. EU and U.S. have signed many agreements on free trade and therefore is very little chance that you have to pay additional taxes and duties.

I know you live in Germany and you are a part of EU (European Union). I wrote ‘‘The EU law has also this regulations.
