Why English people has that idea? For us, the Spanish people, there are 4 regions (no continents, as Rob said) CA is called istmo (don’t know the term in English) and Caribe are island that belong to USA or a country in Europe.
And this is why the Falklands bitch slap fight is still a thing…
It’s not a matter of what people may or may not think. It’s a matter of what has been established to be a standard.
Chief. North America is a continent and it’s separate from South America. Central America and the Caribbean may count as separate regions but they’re still part of North America. I’m pretty sure continents aren’t just a concept used by Americans, they apply everywhere.

No. I know that there are different “model” of geography, but this thing of NA and CA took me surprisedly. I mean I know that for some persons there are 5 continents, for other it could be 4 or 6.

Differences in culture, politics and/or other things in that way. Some geographers consider Europe and Asia and just one big continent. Others make the division of those two
